My baby is 3 weeks and 4 days old. How do I get rid of the formula build up on his tongue? Do all babies get that?

Melanie07 - 94 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) It could very easily be thrush. You should show your doc to be sure.

LMO - 95 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) use a finger tooth brush to get it off.

totallykatalicious - 96 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Could be thrush, but if not you could probably use one of those finger baby brushes that comes with the toothpaste for babies and rub it off...Ask the doc though to be sure.

lindamc - 97 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I was told not to wipe off the white buildup on the tongue. Is it still on a good while after feeding? Then I would think it was thrush.

mizzhoney - 97 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Like almost everyone else said it sounds like thrush. My son had it when he was at teeny baby. He didn't have it on gums or cheeks either. One spot in the center of his tongue. I thought it was just a spot of milk that I couldn't get rid of. Whatever the doctor gave him cleared it right up.

2ndxmommy!! - 97 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) hey I think that it is thrush because my son had it when he was like three months I would make him a appt with his pediatrician and they will give the baby drop for the mouth and it will heal it up!! it does take some time to clear it up though! but good luck!

mzmommy2b - 97 days ago Thanks everyone! I do not think it is thrush however because it is only on his tongue. I read that thrush is also on the gums and more commonly on the sides of the mouth. He doesnt stick his tongue out far enough for me to wipe it off, and I dont want to stick anything in his mouth (might gag him), so I will just leave it. I will let his ped know about it at our app on May 1st. Thanks to all!

ttasha - 97 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) thats the case with my son but i breast feed and i just tend to use a wet cloth and wipe it off i never thought anything of it until i read the answers to your question

Mommyof2boys - 98 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) It sounds like thrush, you can take a wash cloth and wet it and rub real lightly on there but more than likely you might need an antibiotic to clear it up, thats worse case though most of the time it dissapears on its on. good luck

hhall - 98 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I was told not to try to wipe it off as it will become painful and bleed. Let baby rinse with a few sips of water ofter bottle so formula/milk doesn't sit in his mouth.

JennSever - 98 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) yea - its not formula is yeast infection. use a plastic coated baby spoon to sweep the top of the tongue and get some ginseng violet..it colors everything purple but it worth it to get rid of it on his tongue. it can start to become painful. at least your not nursing - my baby and i kept giving it back and forth

mattie4 - 98 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) sounds like thrush to me, your doctor can precribe meds for it ;)

mommy-of-3 - 98 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) If it's not going away it could be thrush. Thrush is basically a yeast infection that baby's can get in their mouth, it's quite common and easy to treat. :)

gigimuffin1 - 98 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) It sounds like thrush...It is very typical for them to get this. You will need to go to the pediatrician and they can give you medicine

Cindie - 98 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) That sounds like Thrush, you'll get medicine from the doctors office for him.

brandi j. - 98 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) If you notice a white coating on your baby's tongue but nowhere else, it's probably just milk residue (especially if you can wipe it off). Thrush patches can appear on your baby's tongue, but are most often found on the sides of the mouth. These spots can be painful — you may first suspect thrush if your baby starts crying when nursing or sucking on a pacifier or bottle.

michaela - 98 days ago Rating: 5 (1 votes) SOunds like he has thrush, speak to your dr or midwife, he needs nystatin. This is really common in newborns, so don't worry, it will clear up quickly with the treatment.

kbushby - 98 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) hmmm... it could be thrush, but that usually happens when babies are breastfed. its like a yeast infection on the tongue and the mom gets it on her breast. so i would either just leave it cause its probably nothing serious or try to wipe it off.

aine - 98 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) i think most babies do get it but check with your midwife or health visitor it could be a wee bit of thrush on his tongue (which is easily treated) , but if its not bothering him dont worry

Baby3OnWay - 98 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) all babys get that!! You can either use a towel, wet of course, or you can get a small tooth brush that fits on your finger that works wonders. I started using one with my son at a month old, its good for cleaning their gums and o=preparing for those first teeth too.. but those are atill awhile coming!!

agonzales - 98 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I was told to get a small wet towel and rub his/her tongue a little to get it off. I think most babies do get that.
