Has anyone had one, and how long did it take for you to heal!?!

lindamc - 22 days ago
I noticed that it's more painful now as time goes by, maybe it's because I stopped taking tylenol.. but gwah!!! I'm so sick of it! Thanks ladies! :)

Had one with my daughter it hurt to sit, go to the bathroom or anything. Having a bm is the worst, actually the worst is having no control over passing gas and sometimes more, VERY GROSS- took 6-8 weeks to heal. Use that squirt bottle ,as you go, with lots of warm water also try putting witch hazel compresses on the tear.

I had 2 and third degree tears. They take a long time to heal. Be very careful. It is very easy to tear a stitch which hurts even more. With the 3rd degree it took a couple months before I was completely pain free.

it will take a few weeks to heal and at first it will hurt to do anything

i hear it takes a few weeks to heal from a 4th degree tear, perhaps even a month or longer. this is the case with a person i know that is currently in her 6th or 7th week of healing from a 4th degree tear ... meaning, she still feels discomfort, slight pain, etc.

I had a 4th degree tear with my first son and healed rather quickly the doctor said. For the first 2 weeks, it hurt very, very badly to sit down, urinate, laugh, sneeze and many other ordinary things. By the third week, I was feeling much better and none of those things hurt anymore. I constantly used a squirt bottle with warm water to avoid infection and also used the spray can of Dermoplast. That was heaven in a bottle and I think the spray is what helped the most.

omg when my son was born 3 years ago i tore 4 times, i remember is stung like hell when i had a wee lol. thought that was so much worse then the labour its self. i had dissolvable stitches which took about 5 wks to fall out

I'm not sure to what degree but I know the Drs just said layers and when I asked about stitches they couldn't even tell me. I could barley sit for weeks and wearing the pads only made it worse and more uncomfortable. It took me nearly 6 weeks to feel normal again BUT for relief what worked for me waa a sitsbath (epson salt in warm water, about 2-3inches in the tub) I would just sit there in awe at how much relief I got. I ended up doing it a few times a day. My stitches that the Dr could see were gone by my post checkup, BUT they use disolving and I would see some in my urine at times and when I wiped for a few good months. My second child was natural and no epidural and so I never had stitchs at all THANK GOD. Good luck my dear and I feel for you. It can only get better though!

I was cut w/ my 1st baby, not sure to what degree, but I know it was not 4th degree! However, it did take me some time to heal. My stitches refused to dissolve, so I had to have them removed at my 6 week check up....ouch! I was also sewn up 1 stitch too tight, so making love hurt! After having my 2nd child, I torn very little, not even enough to get a stitch, and this put me back to "normal". However, I am still tender where I had the stitches, not all of the time, but sometimes, I think it is most likely due to scar tissue. I really hope you feel better soon, that is most certainly not a good feeling!

Whoo wee that has to hurt! I tore too and had 6 stiches but I don't know what degree it was. I'm sorry girl. My girly parts didn't start to feel better for atleast 2 weeks. I was afraid to look for the longest time but once I looked at the damage it didn't look that bad so I quit being so scared of it.

I had a third-degree laceration, and it seems like it took 3-4 wks to heal pretty well. For some dumb reason, my dr didn't exam the area at my 6 wk checkup, and I was okayed to return to normal activities. Then I found out how painful sex was afterwards! I expected it to hurt at first, but the pain never lessened. I kept suffering through it hoping for relief, but it never came. I finally had my regular annual exam - 6 mos after my delivery, and my dr said everything healed fine. I just had tough scar tissue from the laceration, and I had to pinch and massage the scar area to loosen it up again. It was painful, but I only had to do that about 3 x/day for a few days, and right away the pain was gone! I'm expecting another laceration with this birth coming up. What fun...:~(

I had a second degree tear with my first born. It's been quite a while since then but if I remember right it took about 2-3 weeks to heal. My guess is since your tearing was more severe expect about double that amount of time to heal. Good luck with everything, I remember very well how that feels. :(

I didn't have a 4th degree tear I had an episiotomy and two 2nd degree tears going up on either side of my urethra. I am 2 weeks 1 day postpartum and the stitches haven't even dissolved yet but the hospital told me it should only take a week for it to heal. They don't really hurt that much any more though. Now if you have a 4th degree tear you have much more area and layers to heal so it will take a bit longer. I hope it all goes well for you

lindamc - 28 days ago
A third-degree laceration is a tear in the vaginal tissue, perineal skin, and perineal muscles that extends into the anal sphincter (the muscle that surrounds your anus). A fourth-degree tear goes through the anal sphincter and the tissue underneath it.

I also had a second degree and it took about 3 weeks. I thought they only had first, second and third degrees...?
