disability for high blood pressure?

I`ve recently started keeping track of my blood pressure, as I have had high BP since the birth of my son (22 weeks pregnant now) when I`m at work it averages about 150+ over 90+, but when I go home and relax for aboput a half an hour it`s in the 120 over 70 range. I have a highly stressful job, workin g with rape and violence victims and am wondering if I should talk to my doctor about taking ealry maternity disability, as I was pre-eclamtic with my son and am worried if I keep my BP this high 60+ hours a week it could cause problems. What do you think?

I would definitely see if you can get disability... I was the same as you, but I wasn't working. Don't put yourself and the baby in jeopardy.

I too have a high stress job. My ob hasn't said anything about me going on early medical leave but my GP has told me that whenever I feel that it is just too much he will sign the papers for me. I think that talking to your Dr is a very good idea! Studies have shown that a mother being under stress is WORSE for a baby then alcohol and drugs. If I were you I would talk to your Dr. Remember, its all about keeping the BOTH of you safe.

I would definitely talk to your doctor about it, that's a huge jump to go from 120 to over 150. You don't want to jeapordize your health for any job in my opinion. Is there a different position they could place you in temporarily that might not be quite so stressful?

I would say 100% talk to your dr about it. Don't feel bad about approaching your dr about it either. High blood pressure over time does more silent damage than you think. Getting it under control sooner is better for both you and the baby. I wish you well.

I think that you would know best and I'm sure your Dr would be of some concern of the pressure too!! I had a hard time with my first pregnancy and high blood pressure and was put on early leave, they call it medical leave here though when its dealing with stress, ,and it was paid just as much as maternity which here is about 55% or 60%, not sure about there... but your job seems overly stressful for sure and if it is a big concern for you I say go for it and see hwat you can do!! Good Luck

Can you not drop your hours? My job would have to move me to something less stressful if that was the case (i can understand how stressful your job is), is that possible where you work? If not i would speak to your dr as this level of stress is not good for you and since you have a history of preeclampsia i would be extra cautious. i'm not sure how early maternity disability works for you, here in the uk we can be signed off sick by a dr and or maternity leave will automatically start at 36 weeks of pregnancy. I hope things work out for you, all thebest. xx

I think you need to do something, b/c that is not safe for you or your baby!
