as you know from my page, i just had my baby on the 27th of march. she`s almost a month old... the question here is: in may my dh and i plan on taking my daughter to visit grandma and grandpa out of state. it`ll be a 10 hr. drive there. i was wondering if her being in the car for a long period of time and the motion of the car going over bumps and so on will effect her. i know shaking a baby can do a lot of harm, but being in a car and going over bumps and so on...will it have the same effect or is it safe?

niki - 570 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Car journey will be fine just take regular breaks in the driving to feed, change etc. x

Melanie07 - 578 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) She will be fine. The shaken baby thing is violent shaking. Regular car rides are fine. I would stop every so often and take her out. She will get uncomfortable sitting there for long periods of time.

wildberry - 579 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) no she will be fine she might get stressed out by such a long trip tough we travel allot and from my experience it is very helpful for both you and baby to plan on a few stops where you can get her out and walk around in the fresh air

lindamc - 579 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I wouldn't worry!

skittles0607 - 579 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I dont think there is anything to worry about. you may be surprised that she will sleep the whole way. If she gets too cranky just stop as often as you can..

LMO - 579 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) you shouldnt have anything to worry about the baby will be safe and secure in her car seat! :)

totallykatalicious - 579 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Shaking a baby is alot worse than going over a bump while traveling, don't be speeding of course.... you'll be stopping for restroom breaks I hope and to feed her during the trip?... but yeh all should be fine.

julie80 - 579 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) i think it is safe. I always did traveling with my daughter when she was young. And now is can sleep throw a car ride anywhere i think the faster you expose them to things the better the adapt to it so i would not worry about anything. And you can always stop more often for fresh air .

gr8scottswife - 579 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) It's safe. You'll be stopping occassionally.

piggycindy - 579 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) my mom took me on travel from Kansas all the way to LA... she say it was the hardest thing ever but then it is doable...

michaela - 579 days ago Rating: 5 (1 votes) No, don't worry, bumps etc wont harm her. I had a 8 hour journey with my daughter when she was 8 weeks old, she slept most of the time, we scheduled stops every 2-3 hours to feed, change and rest. She was great. Enjoy your trip xx

kathleen - 579 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) yeah shill will be fine and would proberly sleep most of the journey. i would stop a few time 4 a bit of air, a stretch, diaper changes ect... i would also take a few toys 4 in the car while she is not sleeping

MelissaJoanne - 579 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) The ride will probably be soothing to her. This will not be the same as actually shaking a baby. She'll be in a car, safely in her seat. Enjoy the trip and be worry-free.

kbushby - 579 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) know she will be fine just take your frequent stops to chang diapers and feed and what not and to let baby and everyone else stretch out.. it will probably be a nice napping time for her. and soothing for sleeping.. well have fun and congrats on the new baby..

Baby3OnWay - 579 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) In the car seat the baby will be safe! I took my children when they were young to see their grandparents and that was about a 9hour drive for us! we live south On and they live up North. The children were fine and we make the trip a few times a year. We made sure we made a few pit stops for feeding and bum changes and of course food and stretching. BESIDES they tend to sleep most of the ride so enjoy the wuite time on the road. Happy Travelling!!

kelsul - 579 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) you'll be fine :) just be prepared to take lots of rest stops. have fun and enjoy the trip.

mommy-of-3 - 579 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) No worries, go ahead and travel. I would suggest taking a few rest stops now and then to let her get some fresh air, feed her, change her, etc. but yes by all means go ahead and visit grandma and grandpa and have a great time. :)

Brandi J. - 579 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) It will be fine! And if she is ok w/ her carseat, she will most likely sleep most of the time! Just stop when you have to for diapers, feeding, etc. And don't just feed the baby going down the road, she will need to be held and burped, and it is not safe to take her out of her carseat for even a second as long as the car is moving. Don't worry about the bumps, etc. of the car, it is not rough enough to cause any harm to your baby, if anything this will help your baby sleep. The most important thing that you should consider is that if someone you are visiting is sick, that you consider visiting them at a later time, I know it may not be the most convient thing to do, but your baby's immune system is still very weak! Have fun on your trip.

Mommyof2boys - 579 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) No, SBS is constantly shaking and a severe form of head injury that occurs when an infant or small child is shaken forcibly enough to cause the brain to bounce against the skull; the degree of brain damage depends on the extent and duration of the shaking.... A car ride isn't going to do that. Just make sure to stop and get the baby out and let her strech and get a break from the carseat and she'll be fine, good luck and have a good vacation!
