does anyone know how many times you have your blood taken during pregnancy? is it everytime you go to your anti natal appointment? i get so worried!! i hate needles

I used to be terrified on needles, but after several hospitalizations with many IVs, blood draws, needles don't phase me at all. I was even able to get 14 immunizations (yes, that's 14 needles one after another) in one sitting, before going to Kenya. :-)

niki - 570 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) You dont get your bloods taken that often so dont worry...i got my bloods taken twice through my pregnancy - although if theres a problem they may decide to take bloods again.... at the end of my pregnancy my lfts where abnormal and they had to test again for that....

Mommyof2boys - 579 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) No, you get it done a few times during pregnancy unless there's something wrong and they have to do it to keep an eye on something. Sometimes they'll prick your finger to check your blood sugar but its a little thing not a needle. good luck!

Baby3OnWay - 579 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) your first check up usually and after your diabetes test in week 28 or so... or if your Dr think he may want to check your iron and things like that but mostly just 2-3 times tops the whole pregnancy... by the end of pregnancy you will get use to needles though.. at least I have a littlke bit!!

mzmommy2b - 579 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I believe it was 3 times. Initially if you are less then 9 weeks pregnant, then again to test your blood for any STD's or Down Syndrome in the baby, and then again for the GD test. You may have it taken more if there are any complications.

michaela - 579 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) In the uk i think you only get it done twice unless you have complications. Once when you go for your 12 appointment at the hospital and again when you see the drs around 34 weeks for a weight check. If you end up needing a c-section they might do it again to check your blood group incase you would need a blood transfusion during surgery. Hope this hjelps. xx

brandi j. - 579 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) My doctor office only does it 2 times, unless they feel they need to check for something else, which I haven't ever had to do. They draw at the 1st or 2nd appointment to check iron level, immunity to certain things, etc. And then again when they do the blood glucose test, which some doc offices only prick the finger for that now and use a diabetic meter to get their result. My doc. office still draws blood for that though. I completely understand what you are going through, I, too, do not like needles! Once you go in to have your baby, you will be have to deal w/ quiet a few needles, but I always remind myself that it means that I am about to hold my precious baby, so it is worth it.

mommy-of-3 - 579 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Normally it's once or twice, they will do a bigger blood draw somewhat early on where they test for like 5 different things, everything under the sun from Syphillis to HIV. They will also draw blood if you choose to do the triple screen testing which checks for risk of downs and spina biffida. Also if you are like me and have a Thyroid condition you will get at least a finger prick at every visit.
