My DH and I are planning to move to a new town sometime this year, but not sure when. It could be in early August, or we might wait until after baby is born (due Sept 13) and move in mid-October. Either way I won`t be doing any manual labor. But I`m kinda concerned, thinking maybe August would be bad cause I`d have to find a new doc and register for delivery classes and such. Plus my DH would be at a new job and may have a hard time getting time off. This is our first baby, so I don`t know what to expect. What do you guys think? Better to move before baby is born or after?

All of these moms(to-be) who are saying to move after must have had the easiest deliveries and the perfect babies, because I could NOT imagine moving after Riley was born. He is a very good and easy kid and I still would not have the time or energy to move for at least a couple months after he was born, if not longer. I moved when I was around 7 months pregnant and it wasn't that bad. I did most of the packing and the boys did all the lifting. I moved about a half hour away from my old town so not too far, but I would have had no issue with going to a different clinic or hospital. My doctor wasn't even the one on call for my delivery so I had someone else. You will also get a chance to actually get the baby's room put together before hand and not have to unpack all those big items from their boxes until after the move. I would strongly suggest moving BEFORE, you never know what may happen once baby is born.

I think it would be better before. That way you can get settled in before the baby arrives. I would think that even at a new job your husband would be able to arrange for time off for the birth. You could always take prenatal classes before you moved and ask your doc for a referral in your new city. It may be stressful to move while pregnant but it will also be stressful afterwards. The sooner you move, the sooner that stress(of the move) will be gone and you can focus on the baby.

I would say AFTER only because its to a new town, you don't want the hassel of moving and all that stress before the baby, you wouldn't wanna look for a new Dr, the whole working/job thing... I'd wait. I am currently getting ready to move a few blocks from where I am now. with a 28month old a 5 months old and prego... its stressful i wouldn't wana move in your situation pregos! Your baby will be young and have no idea whats going on then so i say wait!!

I would wait till after the baby is born. You don't want to have to find a new doc so close to your due date. I found out I was pregnant during our move. Moving is hard even without having kids. You don't need the stress of moving while being extremely pregnant. By mid Oct you should be in a routine with the baby. Babies adjust pretty easy to changes. I have 3 kids. 14 months, 14 years, and 17 years.

I moved during my pregnancy and it was a bit difficult, but there is no way I could've moved after she was born. She didn't sleep much and screamed day and night and I was feeding her every hour for months. You may be lucky and have a healthy, content baby who sleeps, or you may have a baby that needs constant attention. Either way, you will probably be very exhausted, with very little time to do much else than look after your baby and try to rest. Good luck either way.

Be packed and ready to move before the baby is born. Seriously. Keep out only the necessities. I moved 2 months before the baby was born and found it a lot easier but I just moved across our city and didn't have to worry about finding a new doctor. When the baby is here you are going to have a lot of time spent on the baby and not a lot to spend on much else. That is why I recommend packing as much as you can before baby is here.

I would wait until after, that way you are not so stressed with finding a new doctor and classes.

Since it will be so close to your due date, I suggest waiting until after your baby is born. One reason being, you may not find a doctor who is willing to take you that late into your pregnancy, and you would end up having to just take whatever doctor was on call that night (this happens even when you have a doctor). So if possible hold off, but if you have to move before hand, see if your doc now can refer you to a doc in your new area, he may be able to get someone to take you. Good luck and Congrats on your preg.

Personally I would think if you can, wait until after the baby is born. At least that way you won't have to worry about him not being able to get any time at all off for the baby. On the other hand though, it may be beneficial to get to the town you're moving to before the baby is born so you have ample opportunity to find a pediatrician and stuff.

i have done both and as far as i'm concerned they are both hard but it was a little easier to move before the baby believe it or not it was less stressful

If you have a choice, wait until shortly after baby is born. Last week it seemed that my husband's company was interested in transferring him across the country in a few months, (which thankfully is not happening). The idea of moving and finding new doctors and such sounded horrible to me. I said I'd move after, but I'm at least staying in our same city until post-baby. Wait until October, if you have the option to do so.

I would leave it until shortly after the baby is born. When they are only a few weeks old they just sleep in between feeds so you will be able to have more input to the whole moving effort. You are still not allowed to lift heavy weights for 4 months after giving birth as your ligaments are still laxed in your back. Before you move would be extremly stressful and it is very hard to sit back and do nothing whilst your life is packed up in boxes, as well as the issues you will have regarding healthcare, time off work. I think you have already answered your own question. All the best. xxx

I would think it would be easier for both of you to wait until the baby is born. Like you said you'd have to change doctors and your husband very well could have a tough time trying to take off for the birth. Might be better to wait if possible...
