Well, we have an 8 month old puppy and I was a little worried about her as well, but as you can see by my profile pic she is adjusting quite nicely! She did seem put out a little for the first couple of weeks but when she realized we weren't forgetting about her she got a lot better. I couldn't imagine giving her up! She is part of the family as well! Good luck and I know all animals react differently but I hope your's dont give you too much trouble. :)

I felt the same way in the beginning. Now I am glad I have not made that decision. Keep me posted on your thoughts...

My dog turned on me when i was pregnant.... hes 3 years old, i wouldnt trust him to a point where he is left alone with my daughter at night hes in the kitchen and outside alot of the day hes separated from the livingroom as i have a baby gate up - to calm him down i got him neutered in October but i dont feel its worked... just be weiry as there are so many bad stories in the press... i think any animal has it in them to turn.

I have a dog and a cat and am actually wondering about this myself. The dog is still kind of a puppy and jumps up on people a lot so that's why I worry about him. The cat is very curious and is always getting into things or trying to sneak his way into a room even when we are trying to keep him out so I don't know the first few days will be interesting.

i had a cat when my daughter was born and i had to give it away. the cat was constantly going after my newborn daughter. the cat was jealous i guess. ive known others who have had to get rid of cats. my cousin had a dog and when she had her kids the dog was so protective of the kids that he would sleep by their bedroom door and follow them everywhere

i had a dog that i love but i loved my baby much more of coarse we tried to work with the dog be she became very aggressive thankfully for us we had a good friend that loved her to and gave her a good home it was sad but not worth the risk that she might hurt my baby

I have a lab/hound mix that is 50 pounds and has a tail that hurts if you get whipped by it. When my daughter was born my parents took her so that we wouldn't get stressed out, plus we have a TEEEENY apt. When we go visit my parents she is fine with the baby... she is very inquisitive, and still shy. My only concern is that when baby gets older the dog might knock her over... she is very brut-like.

we have a pit and a cat.. they get along with one another just fine (believe it or not lol) I dont think they will have a hard time adjusting to the baby.. if anything they'll both be curious and sniff her (ALOT) :o)

if your pets are well trained and made aware of the boundaries set with the new baby you should be fine.

I have 3 cats and to be honest they have never really bothered with my daughter, she also stays at my mums frequently where there are 4 dogs and 4 cats who also don't bother. I did buy cat nets for crib and cot before she was born and when she was very small i never left her alone in a room with the cats, they aren't allowed in her bedroom either. Personally i think animals aren't dispensable and can't understand ppl who get rid of their pets except in allergy circumstances.
My daughter will be 6 months next week and she already loves animals, she shreaks and laughs when they go by and strokes them. I think that cats and dogs are wary as they dont like the noises babies make. So don't worry about it until you see how they are. Please don't get rid of them unless you are told to by a dr. xxx

My cat always went into the crib BEFORE my baby was here and always went into her room which really bothered me. Once the baby got here it took her awhile to get use to the baby but she was really good, approches her with caution and stayed out of the crib and the room altogether....BUT if the baby was at my moms or out somewhere with someone the cat would go into the room and search for her and jump back into the crib until the baby got home. She also does this now with my son and I am sure she will do it again with this one. The dogs I am not too sure about though... Wish you luck!

We have two cats. They are great with our now 14 1/2 months old. We just slowly introduced them to her. They love her. We do not let them sleep in her room when she is in there. I think pets are a great learning experience for kids. Ashley is very good with animals since she has learned first hand how to treat the animals. Our cats even let her lay on them like a pillow.

Pets are good for children, and often they become very protective of a new baby, rather than jealous or vicious. I used to work at a cat shelter and did cat adoption and behavior counseling. It makes me sad when people give up a pet because of a baby. Sometimes it takes some getting used to for your furrier family members, but there are almost always ways to work through it, rather than getting rid of your pet. Supervised visits, letting pet get used to baby's smell and sound... even if your pets aren't excited by the idea initially, they will learn to live with it.

Hmmmm... at least we have a great Humane Society and my dogs would not have any trouble being adopted. Still, sad just thinking about it. But whatever is best for the baby!

LOL! Gross! I have a pug and what looks like a min german shepherd. She is a mut of some sort and perfect in every way. My daughters joke when trying to feel the baby kick that if they push too hard the baby's face will look like Lola (the pug)!

i had three dogs (2 pugs and 1 chi doxie mix) i had to get rid of the chi because, its his nature, to be territorial. he started to act up and pee on furniture. i didnt have time for three dogs anyways and the other two are old and calm, the chi was a puppy still. so i gave him to my dh's gma. i didnt want my baby to start crawling and end up finding a puddle of dog pee.

Thank you! I have NEVER heard of anyone putting a screen door on the room but that is a FABULOUS idea!!!! I do not let the animals in my room or the babies right now, so hopefully that will continue. It makes me sad to think I might need to get rid of a pet, but the baby comes first that is for sure!

Always be carefull with your baby around even the most gentle of pets, as you know, but usually there are no huge problems. My partner has a cat that lives inside the house, so we put up a screen door to the baby's room so that the cat couldn't get in. Not sure about your cat, but some cats love to sleep with people and a warm baby is very inviting. The cat may inadvertantly smother a baby or scratch it. Not to mention cat hair and dirt, fleas, etc would not be a good thing to have in a baby's cot.

Before my baby was born I picked up a babydoll and carried it around with me for a few days around the house. I set with it and held it took it every where and ate with it and let the animals see me doing that, they would smell and be curious but when we brought the real baby home from the hospital, my animals kind of sensed it was real and living and would smell but then go on about their thing.
