i got this vicks vaporizer from my cousing and a medicated steam liquid to put on it, but it says for a baby to ask a doctor, but where am i gonna find a dr rihgt now rihgt, anyways has anyone used one like this before, my 2mth old has very bad congestion is been for several wks, dr told me to do the shower steam, use saline drops and everything is useless she cant even breathe at night, i bought a humidifier but is a cool mist and it doesnt seem to work, i mean it works but is not of any beneficial to my 2mth old, it brakes my heart when she cant breathe, and she gets worst at night. any help and if is ok to use this vaporizer with the medicated liquid that comes with it, and how to use this machine cause i turn it on and i dont see any steam coming out. thanks in advance.

lady26 - 214 days ago Rating: 4 (1 votes) try baby vaporizers

niki - 215 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I used the plug in for a week when emogene was quite snuffily... i found it helped but i had it plugged in at one end of the room and her at the other end in her cot - i also left the door to the room slightly open. Good job

RandiLee - 222 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I had one of those in my room when i was a baby.....well, and my entire childhood, because i had the croup a lot.....and it never cause me any problems....only helped.

mommy-of-3 - 223 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I wouldn't suggest using the medicated steam being that she is only 2 months old. I would try just a warm water steam and even that should help out.

MzMommy2B - 223 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Vaporizers should be safe for infants, and I believe are the recommended thing to use when they are congested or sick. I just wouldnt use it for a prolonged period of time. I know of someone who had it on for a few days for congestion, and winded up getting pneumonia because it puts too much water/vapor into your lungs after too long.

Mommyof2boys - 223 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Until you can call the doctor or a pharmacist just take the baby in the bathroom set on the toilet and run the shower on hot hot and let the steam fill the bathroom, that will losen up all the congestion.

klasnaya - 223 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Hi just wanted to say that hhall gave a realy good advice. Also they are good stuff the vics but if you have any asthma history in your family then i would wait to ask doc about the vics cuz it can cause your baby to have an asthma attack! You can also get a rub on vicks it works realy well! Thats what i used and i did water for a humidifier.

hhall - 223 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) You may not see the steam, and you dont have to use the medication. If you are unsure, use water-- it will make it easier for baby to breathe. i have one of these units.

LMO - 223 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) she should be ok but you still might want to ask your doctor if it will be ok

pepper1376 - 223 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Should be fine. I always ask the doctor before I use any med's on a baby younger than 2 years though. If she will, put her to sleep in her car seat. Laying down flat sometimes makes the congestion worse. Hope she feels better.

lilmissred - 223 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) we started using a vaporizer for my son when he was about 3-4 mos old. NOW hes 12 and uses the Vicks steam liquid occassionally , BUT since ur baby is so young why not sit in a steamy bathroom with the shower running with him/her for awhile.. we used to do that as well and sometimes my son does that to this day- there are no meds involved and it actually works

michaela - 223 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) When my little girl was younger i used to put olbas oil on my bed clothes and she was in her moses basket about 2 foot from our bed, this seemed to help without being overpowering!! Hope this helps.

Baby3OnWay - 224 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I talked to my DR and he told me that the vapors are too strong for a baby and can cause more problems for their breathing INstead of useing the hot steam I got one with cold steam as its said to be a lot better for your children and their cold... ALSO put a pillow UNDER HER CRIB MATRESS to prop up her head to help with breathing and so that if she has flem or anything in her throat that she doesn't choke... GET A COLD INSTEAD OF HOT AND NOT VAPORS SHES TOO YOUNG... PLEASE!!! I didn't know this myself but now that I am on number three I have had a little more info given to me and more insite on what can and may happen! Hope this helps and I'm sorry to hear shes sick, nothing worse then for a mom to see their little ones so sick so young! Take care and best wishes to you and you daughter!

MelissaJoanne - 224 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Menthol really isn't good for anyone. If that is the ingredient in the "medicated" steam, I'd caution against it. A warm mist vaporizer without medication, or menthol, would be fine for baby. Menthol is actually an irritant, and will cause more problems with lungs and throats, rather than solve them. Use plain water. You won't actually see the steam coming out if it is working properly, so don't let that throw you off.

caitlin h - 224 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) When my baby was 3 months old, he got RSV, and I used the vaporizer with the medicine. It worked great, much better than our original cool mist one that did NOTHING!!! I too might use it without the medicine until you can ask your dr. tomorrow- I only used it with the meds sometimes, and a lower concentration than what they instructed. Good luck- the warm air should help!

thx4grace - 224 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) It is not a hot steam that is super visable. The warm water releases steam into the air. Since it says that, I would say until you talk to the doctor just use it without the medicine in it. It will still add mositure to the air.

kbushby - 224 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) they have the vapo steam for babies. until you can get to a store to get that i would just use the vaporizer, it will do a good job alone..
