I am having my first baby on Tuesday via incution... I am nervous, so wanting to know about the process of it and your experience with it... How many cm`s were you when you were induced? Did it end in c`section? How long were you in labor for before the baby made it`s grand entrance? Is it true the contractions are longer and more painful when they are induced??? what exactly did the Dr.`s do to make you contract? If you had GD did that effect your induction at all??? Thanks guys!

well, you have to be at least 3 cm dilated, the labor is longer and some do end up in c-section.

I was induced at 40 weeks + 5 days.... i was told that i was favourable and so was already 3cms gone at 7pm then at 8pm doctor broke my waters and a drip was put up more or less instantly....(they can speed up your contractions by the drip) a couple of hours later approx 11pm i went to 4cms dilated then at 1:45am got pushing pains and baby Emogene arrived at 2am.... i was told that was quick for being induced midwife wasnt expecting the baby so soon my husband had to call the midwife as she was on her break at the time... i took gas and air and had stated before hand that i didnt want an epidural or pethidine. To relax me i brought music and i found it did help the process, maybe you could try bringing in some music - try to breath through it and i found my husband rubbing my lower back helped alot with the pain.... i felt the contractions down the front of my legs and back i walked around the bed and used a birthing ball... good luck and try to stay calm x

I was 40 weeks, 2 cm dialated. I had been dialated like that for about a month. They actually started me on Pitocin for the induction at about 4:30 pm. My labour started getting worse probably about 7pm. I had an epidural at 10:10. I had my daughter at 10:50. She was healthy, with an apgar score of 9 (or 9.5??)
hope this helps.

Hi there, i had to be induced 32 hours after my waters broke as things weren't progressing quickly enough- they wanted to give me pessaries but when the midwife examined me i actually had 2 contractions so she decided that they weren't the way to go so i was started on a drip at 3cms and had to be monitored closely. After another 10 hours my little girl arrived naturally. Turns out she was back to back and came out facing up instead of down so i had to go to 13cms instead of the nomal 10!!!!!

Read my birth story on my page, it should make you feel a little better. I had a good experience. I was 41 weeks pregnant, and 2 cm when i was induced. Also, I was 50% effaced. I have never has a natural delivery (without induction) as this was my first child, but I would imagine it is actually better then normal, because you are expecting it. Good luck!

Its a hormone used to speed up your labor and get you into labor breaking your water and doing the pitocin, sometimes it helps and others it doesn't do a thing. Everyone's body is so different.

I have heard of people being induced and still having it take several hours to deliver (though this is not always the case because everyone is different.)My guess is that since it is your first baby you are looking at about 10 hours average for labor time. Good luck and early congrats on the baby!!

I was induced I was 4cm dilated for nearly 4weeks prior. They broke my water and nothing so they added a drip in my iv to get the contractions started and I had the baby in 53mins... so fast no time for drugs but it was amazing the way I felt afterwards I swear!!! My child before that i had an epidural and I felt like A$$ afterwards. Good Luck!

i was 4cm when i was induced. we didnt jump straight into potocin, she broke my water and just let it happen. contractions came on fast after my water broke. then i got pitocin at some point, and soon enough i got and epidural, contractions were getting to be a bit much. my sdvice is to ask your doc if they will break you water first, maybe strip your membraines a couple days before.. call them up and ask them if you can run in to get your membraines stripped.

I was induced with my 1st 3wks early due to placenta failure, they used the gel a few times, then the pitocin drip,no drugs and he was born 3hrs later. My 2nd I went into labor on my own no problems, my 3rd I was a week late, about 3cm dilated but my cervix was still very high up and firm, they broke my water and I started having contractions a couple hours later got to the hospital and delivered her 33minutes later. I found no difference in the strength of contractions with any of my labors, inducing makes the contractions more regular and quicker so it may seem more painful. Also when you are worried about inducing being more painful you are more tense and nervous making labor more painful all around, the more you relax (I know it's hard) the less painful your contractions will be. Best of luck to you.

I had been induced with both my kids. With my first i was 3 cm and went to 10 cm in 2 1/2 hours! Then took an hour to push him out. I was induced cuz i was leaking amniotic fluid at 37 weeks . Started getting contractions like an hour after they started the meds. First few were ok then bam Terrible pain but they were still bearable. But yes they were something harsh. The second time time i was induced cuz doc thought i had an infection but i didnt and it was too late. I kept going into labor and i was at a 4cm when i got there. At that point i was fine no contractions. But after starting the iv i started contracting emediatly but they gave me a low amount so it was actualy great for the first hour! Well i had her within 2 1/2 hours after being induced and only took 3 pushes so i guess i went from a 4cm to 10cm in 2 1/2 hours. It wasnt as bad as the first tho. I wouldnt mind being induced again it wasnt so bad! Good Luck!!!

well.. when I had my daughter.. I started out leaking which sent me to L & D, BUT they gave me the pitocin(sp) and broke my water which sped my contractions up and those things catch u offguard.. they come xtremely hard/fast.. so I dunno, but I think thats some sort of induction?? anywho it didnt end in a c-section and my daughter actually came pretty fast aside from her breathing issues. Anyway.. LOTS of Luck Mommy and Congrats in advance, u'll do GREAT! :o)

I was induced due to my high blood pressure. I went in for my 40 week appt (I already had an induction set for 2 days later) and my bp was way too high so they decided it was time, and I was checked in. First they examined me... I was only 1 cm. Then they stuck in a bulb type thing and inflated it with some sort of solution. It was supposed to make my cervix dilate, but after 19 hours it did NOTHING but cause me great discomfort! After it feel out, they started me on pitocin, then broke my water... right after they broke my water the contractions started to get more painful. I don't know if it's true that they are longer and more painful, all I know is that they were coming one after another! I got the epidural at 6 cm after the "pain medication" they gave me didn't work. They started me on pitocin at 7 am, and I had my baby at 10:12 or so... If I could do it over again I wouldn't have had the epidural. I ran into some complications: after my epidural I spiked a fever, this put the baby at risk for infection and so it was urgent to get her out! My bp went up so high that they had to start me on some medication, and I think because I couldn't feel the contractions it hindered from pushing correctly. They later had to use a vacuum which I feel contributed to my 4th degree tear. It's all worth it in the end though, and all in all it's not as bad as people make it out to be, it's just a whole lot of waiting! We were in the hospital for 6 out of 7 days... so be prepared- bring something to keep you entertained. Good luck!!
