Our hospital offers so many classes. Which are the essential ones to take? When should I take them - 6 mos, 7 mos, 8 mos?

I didn't take any classes but I would read a description of the ones offered and make a decision based on things you know or need to know before you go in. Take them as soon as available cause I hear they fill up quick

This is my first, so I'm planning to take lamaze and breastfeeding courses. I've done my research, of course, but I think that the classes will give me some peace of mind. Around 30 weeks is probably a good time to start.

I'm not taking classes....i personally think they are pointless if you have the internet! lol...
But I know you should register asap, because sometimes they fill up quick, you usually take the labour class around 30 weeks.
good luck!! <3

Different hospitals offer different classes. I am not taking any of the classes offered because my midwife said it is a waste of money, but she highly recommended that I take a Bradley class, which is not offered locally. So, I decided to do all the reading I can do and put into effect what I gleam. I am reading Hypnobirthing: The Mongan Method as well as other books to help with birthing. I am also using herbs to make labor go more smoothly.

I just started my 5 week birthing class and I'm 32 weeks,,I would take the birth class (it really helps you understand labor and delivery so you won't be as scared) and maybe a newborn care class if it's your first baby-they usually offer a CPR class too if it's not included in the newborn one...This is my second baby (I had my first 4 years ago) and I'm just refreshing the labor and delivery part..I would also take a breastfeeding class if you are thinking about nursing your baby...Good luck:)

I took a labor class that the hospital offered. It was free and included a tour of the hospital. I took it because I wanted to know everything I possibly could before labor. I didn't use a thing I learned in that class. I took it at 7 months.

I didn't take any classes but the breastfeeding one sounds like it could have been beneficial. Do a birthing class as well just so you know what to expect. Honestly I didn't regret not taking the birthing class though because my body totally took over during the birthing process.

If this is your first baby you might want to consider lamaze, you might also consider breastfeeding if you are planning to do so.

I would take them around the 7/8th month, I liked the birthing class and the breastfeeding class. Take which ever one you are interested in and think would be good help.

I'm taking a series of classes throughout May, during my 7/8th month. That includes breastfeeding, breathing/relaxation, etc., and the hospital tour. I figured that way it was close enough to my due date that I'd still remember everything that I learned once baby is born, but far enough away that I won't have to worry about going into labour in the middle of a class!

My local hospital only does parentcraft classes for 1st timers, they can start anytime from 32 weeks on and consist of 3 weekly sessions lasting 90 minutes. I personally think a tour of the hospital is important, a class about what type of pain relief/relation method are available and what to expect during labour. Also i think it also good to do a baby first aid course that includes baby resusitation. All the best. xx
