My friend has a one year old baby. He is a really fussy eater. he eats cheese and dry biscuits, a chicken and noodle commercially made baby food and baby farex with formula. She has tried everything from bought baby food to homemade vegies, fruit, avocado, normal dinners, pureed food, chunkier food - everything but he either dry reaches or vomits. Even if he smells it on her breath like a sausage in bread or a banana, he will dry reach. and once she took him to a chinese restaurant and he couldnt even bear being there and kept dry reaching just from the smell of the restaurant! Has anyone had this experience and can anyone suggest something for my friend to try? I would appreciate any advice or suggestions - thanks

lady26 - 83 days ago Rating: 1 (2 votes) babies are normal picky eaters

MelissaJoanne - 84 days ago Rating: 3 (1 votes) It takes several tastings before food will taste good to a baby. She should try putting other foods in the things that baby will already eat.

riknlee - 91 days ago He seems to be onto every trick and seems highly sensitive to smells more than the taste of things, keep the comments coming though. they are very helpful

Mommyof2boys - 91 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Has she tried to wrap something inside the cheese or biscuit? Sometimes Mom's get tired and give up after a couple times of trying, if he's gaining weight I wouldn't worry too much about it but if you are worried try to disguise the food in something he likes, make fun meals with adding different colors to them and shapes. good luck!

lmo - 91 days ago Rating: 3 (1 votes) my daughter didnt really have problems with smells but with textures of foods my mom tried giving her some baked beans once and she just threw up right when they hit her tounge

mommy-of-3 - 91 days ago Rating: 3 (1 votes) It sounds like there may be something going on medically here. I would suggest your friend take him in for a thorough exam paying special attention to his stomach/digestive tract.

gr8scottswife - 91 days ago Rating: 1 (1 votes) I have read that reintroducing some food after a few weeks may help.

Christina1984 - 91 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) does he have a food allergy? my daughter was and still is a fussy eater but she never vomited. with her i would introduce her to food and made it look fun. i make mashed potatoes and hide butternut squash in it. it looks like potatoes and she has no idea she is eating vegetables. there is a book out that teaches u how to hide veggies and other things into foods ur child will eat, even brownies. and they cannot taste the difference

Melanie07 - 91 days ago Rating: 5 (1 votes) A friend of mine whose son is 9 mins older than my daughter, had the same problem. She finally found out it was a reflux/digestive problem. They put him on some meds and now he is eating just about everything. I think he is on Zantac. You may want to discuss it with his doc.

michaela - 91 days ago Rating: 4.3 (3 votes) My brother was like this as a baby, he lived on fromage frais, processed turkey drumsticks, fish fingers, bread and chips. It was a nightmare going on holiday trying to find restaurants that would cater for him. most of the time he just ate the bread rolls. As he got older he became more adventurous - margerita pizza, scampi, burger. but he could never go to friends houses for dinner as his diet was so restrictive. He's now 24, 6' 2" tall and well built and gorgeous. He eats pretty much everything now and doesn't appear to have suffered any ill effects with having had such a poor diet as a kid. My mum on the other hand got grey hairs early due to the stress of him not eating/vomiting things he didn't like. I hope this gives your friend some reassurance that kids are very resilient.

riknlee - 92 days ago by the way, he is a healthy looking child and isnt skinny at all. he is on a goat's milk formula too

jessicadarling - 92 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I think the thing she needs to do is take him to the doctor. There may be something else going on. Being picky is different than what you are describing. She should take him to the doctors so he doesn't get malnourished.

Baby3OnWay - 92 days ago Rating: 5 (1 votes) I don't think I would really call that a normal reaction. Most children go through a picky stage in their life but the smell of food like that to make him dry reach... I know it wasn't right for me as a pregnant woman to be like that I don't think its right for a child. I think sending him to a DR or even a pediatrician would be your best bet. Alot of the same foods, healthy or not, can actaully lead to health issues so I would address this problem while hes still young and nip it in the bum! Best of luck to your friend!!
