Well, baby`s father and I have decided on the name Aryan Glenn. We absolutely love it ourselves, and Aryan has many really awesome meanings from different origins, overwhelmingly meaning `noble` or `honourable` though. however, my mother and many friends have begged me not to use it, on account of Hitler, the Nazis, and the Aryan race, saying people will think we`re racist and the child will have a hard time in school and later in life. I think if worst came to worst, he could go by his middle name...but I am being selfish to name my child a name that could cause him friction just because we love it?

niki - 123 days ago Rating: 2.3 (3 votes) Dont be influenced by what other people think.... its your baby you name it what you think best. Good luck x

lady26 - 126 days ago Rating: 2.7 (12 votes) It's your baby name him what you want

lmo - 130 days ago Rating: 2 (5 votes) its your child so you choose the name

jamitom - 130 days ago Rating: 1.3 (4 votes) i never pay attention to the meaning of names and im sure neither do many other people.i dont even know the meaning of my own name.Go with it.

Brandi J. - 130 days ago Rating: 1.8 (5 votes) I think that if you changed the spelling of the name then no one would think of anything negative.

Baby3OnWay - 131 days ago Rating: 1.5 (4 votes) I don't think so.. My entire family hated my grandfather, (9 out of 11 of his children) and then my brother and I loved him an I named my son after him regarless of what the family though! ALSO a friend of mine was born in a really religous family and attends a catholic church but named her son damian.... I think if you like it for other reasons then those that may cause trouble just go with it!!! I mean you know why you picked it and you can even write why and the meanings in your babies book so that if they question why they can read and be greatful for the reasons behind your decision!! Best of Luck! I like the name!

DonnaG - 131 days ago Rating: 1.8 (4 votes) Have you thought about Aaron instead? It's really close and a cute name...

jessicadarling - 131 days ago Rating: 1.3 (3 votes) Your baby, you choose the name. My mother tried to convince us not to name our daughter Devyn but we loved it too much not to name her Devyn. It suits her so much. I adore her name. Once that baby comes out you will look at him and know whether or not the name is right.

Mommyof2boys - 131 days ago Rating: 1.3 (3 votes) You name your baby, you know whats best for him/her so go with it. If your child says its hard when he's in school then let him decide that and if he want's to go by his middle name.

captshelley - 131 days ago Rating: 1.8 (4 votes) Don't let anyone talk you out of a name you love. This is your baby. They named their babies, it's your turns. Just tell them you disagree and don't really want to discuss it anymore.

mommauv4 - 131 days ago Rating: 1.3 (4 votes) I really like the sound of the name but negative connotations do come to mind... you could try playing with the spelling Arian,Arien etc. Or you just go for it and explain the positives to your child and he can stand up for himself if teased.

ashleyandcaleb - 131 days ago Rating: 2.6 (7 votes) I do automatically think aryan nation as well, but if you love it go for it,its your baby=],im pretty sure your child will let you know later on in life if he wants to be called something else.

holly28 - 131 days ago Rating: 1.8 (4 votes) I had that question to myself when we were considering the name Pandora. Both me and my b/f LOVE the name but everyone else hated it and commented on the negative images it gives. Eventually we decided to not use the name no matter how much we love it because, in our opinion, it wouldn't be fair to our child. I love the name but wouldn't want to see my baby suffer throughout life with a name they hated and people constantly criticized or poked fun of because of MY desire. I am not saying that is what you are doing, I am just saying that this is how I came to this choice.

JennSever - 131 days ago Rating: 1 (4 votes) oh sweetie hard one..my children all have "different" names too. but when i read the name you liked, i too thought of hitler etc. but my step daughters name is ariana & i call her ari..not too far from aryan. you just have to go with what you can live with. my girlfriend is related to the Coors family that owns Coors beer and the great grandfather who started the company is named Adolph Coors, so she named her son after his great grandfather and his name is Adolph! the little boy goes by his middle name William, but his legal name is still Adolph! just go with what feels the best for you.

MelissaJoanne - 131 days ago Rating: 3.3 (12 votes) Sorry to be negative, but Aryan only makes me think Aryan Nation. I can't imagine naming a child that. The only time I've heard of children being named Aryan was because the parents were actually racist, and wanted to pass it along to their child. The word "niggardly" means stingy or miserly, nothing to do with what it sounds similar to. Yet, it has fallen out of common use because of obvious negative and racist associations, (especially with politicians that have gotten in trouble/had to resign for using the word, properly). Despite the real meaning of the word, you have to consider what it has come to mean, and what nearly everyone will associate it with. Your son will likely spend his life having to explain that mom + dad aren't really racist, they just liked the name. There are many similar sounding names that don't have such an awful stigma attached to them. I'd really urge you to reconsider.

Christina1984 - 131 days ago Rating: 1.3 (4 votes) i say go 4 it. i never told any1 what names i picked out until i named my daughter in the hospital. i wont tell any1 (except people on here) this time what names i have chosen. good luck

michaela - 132 days ago Rating: 2 (6 votes) I like it, don't be put off by others, i decided not to tell others what i was calling my little girl until she was born because ppl are very opinionated before the baby is born but after everyne says they really like it. Go with your gut feelings and let other ppls opinions just wash over your head. All the best. xxx

mommy-of-3 - 132 days ago Rating: 1.5 (4 votes) Honestly the first thing that comes to my mind when I hear that name is the negative thoughts that you mentioned. It of course is up to you to decide but I would consider possible conflicts that your son might encounter having such a name. Good luck.
