My 1 month old baby boy has started coughing a little today, and also was very fussy last night and this morning which is not normal for him. I thought it was gas, so I gave him Mylicon which helped a little with the fussiness, but he also vomited after eating. He has done this before, but not continuously. This time, he did it at 4 am, and again at 10 am. Also, I suctioned out his nose, and his boogies are wet and slimey... I am guessing he is developing a cold... which I am very upset about, but I have checked his temperature and it is normal, and I will continue to do so hourly to make sure it stays normal. Also, I just turned on the Germ Free Humidifier.. I am hoping this works and his cold doesn`t progress. Anyone have a 1 month old that had a cold? How did it finally go away and how long did it last? Also, what did you do for it? I will bring him to the Dr of course if symtoms worsen or he develops diarrhea or a fever.

If you are breastfeeding he should get well quickly. As long as you're doing all that you can, and he doesn't develop a fever, he should be fine.

Is he breastfeeding? He should get all the immunity to this he needs from your body. If not, take him to the doctor and just follow the doctors plan. Hope he feels better soon! :-)

I agree with Brandi. Take the baby to the doc. My daughter got RSV. She was coughing and had the runny nose. She did not have a fever. With a baby that young you don't want to take any chances. They will tell you to suction his nose, use saline nose drops, and a cool mist humidifier. If he still has trouble sleeping, put him in the swing or car seat. Babies will vomit from sinus going down their throat.

With my son I put a pillow under the head of his mattress to help with coughing (elevation) I used the cold steam humidifier, but with my daughter when she has a cold and GOT SICK I would take her to the Dr even without a fever and found that she had an ear infection. I would make an appointment to check for an ear infection as leaving them too long in young children can affect their hearing later in life... don't stress about it though I would just get it checked out!

Do not wait for a fever, my son had RSV and never developed a fever. Keep using the humidifier. He most likely threw up from the drainage from his nose. Something that my sister in laws ped. told her to do for one of her children and I did for my youngest when she was 3 weeks old was put a drop of Visine in each side of the baby's nose. It will clear the baby's nose up w/in about 5 min. However, this is just temporary, but it may help until you can see your doctor. It helped my daughter to get her nap out. I hope your little man feels better very soon!

I agree with jaydsmom have him sleep in his infant car seat in a slightly upright position BUT place towels snuggly around the base, or even under the edge to firm up the seat position you want him in and to make sure there is no way it can tip forward. Was given this tip at my local public health unit. You can also use saline solution and a nasal aspirator to keep his nose clear. Re: vomiting that is going around but sometimes babies just puke for no real reason. Trust yourself if you feel there is a problem that needs medical attention get him checked out. All the best!

It might be sinus related, the sinus drainage going down the back of his throat setting on his stomach can cause vomit. Set in a bathroom and run the hot shower and set on the toilet and let the steam fill the room and that will help losen up any mucus, it should pass in a few days. good luck!

My daughter developed a cold at a very young age also. It lasted about a week. The best thing you can do is use the cool air humidifier and try to keep him comfortable. I found that putting her in the infant car seat to sleep helped, because she was partially upright and it made it easier for her to breathe. I called my pediatrician first to make sure there was no reason for her to not sleep in the car seat.
