Counting kicks and position

I am 30 weeks, and I was just curious, I have heard so much about `counting the kicks` or a `kick chart`, my doctor doesnt seem to concerned about me doing this so when are you supposed to start doing this, or is it even necessary? My baby moves tons and has a pretty regular schedule of when its active, so i have no concerns, just curious. Also when abouts does the baby `get into position` to be born, like turning and dropping, you hear so much about babies being breach, when do you know if its going to be that way.

MelissaJoanne - 82 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) If your baby is very active and your doctor doesn't seem to think it's important, than it's probably not. As far as positioning, check out www.spinningbabies.com for info on proper baby positioning.

niki - 83 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I done a kick chart but when it boiled down to it i felt 10 kicks in 24 hours so it was nothing to worry about. It was done because i didnt think she was kicking as much as she was meant to be - the midwife encouraged me to do this.

lmo - 86 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) i didnt have to do it. because my daughter was very active

*Babylicious* - 86 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I never bothered with it on my last pregnancy. As long as you are still feeling your baby move or kick occasionally through the day, everything should be fine. It's only really to do if there are long periods that the baby is not moving.

michaela - 86 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I only did it if i had a period where i hadn't felt baby kick for a while. If you are getting plenty of movement don't worry.

mumofsoontobe5 - 87 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I only ever done this once my due date had been and gone.

Melanie07 - 87 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) You don't have to unless the movements have lessened tremendously. Each baby is different on when they get into position. They will usually do an ultrasound in the last month to check position. I wouldn't worry till then.

Baby3OnWay - 87 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Not necessary AT ALL unless you are feeling kicks getting lighter, less frequent then normal... a lot of people really stress about it but you have to remember that baby sleeps in your belly too!! I wouldn't be too concerned about it. Both my children moved into position at about 6 months... they can change at any time though, being breach though you will find out FOR SURE in your last month or so! Best of luck

ashleyandcaleb - 87 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I didn't realize your suppose to count kicks...

mommy-of-3 - 87 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I believe counting the kicks starts somewhere around the 7th month, (that is when you should be feeling baby everyday.)Most babies get into position/drop right at the end, sometime at the end of the 8th month or begining of the 9th.

Brandi J. - 87 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) You start this at 28 weeks. At the same time everyday, sit down in a quiet relaxing spot and count your baby's kicks. There should be 10 kicks w/in 2 hrs. One thing that you can do is drink OJ or a sugar or caffienated drink before doing this. The baby usually turns into head down position in the 2nd trimester, but then some babies don't turn until a day before labor, and then there are those that don't turn and have to be turned by the doctor. As for engaging, or dropping, if this is your 1st baby your baby will most likely drop 2 weeks or so before you go into labor, and if it is a 2nd, 3rd, etc, baby then your baby most likely will not drop until after labor has begun. You will not know for sure that your baby is going to be breech until it is time to deliver, b/c some will turn the day before.

Mommyof2boys - 87 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) As long as you are feeling so movements and towards the end the babys kicks will slow down because he/she doesn't have much room to move around in there. If you notice somethings not right where you don't feel anything you need to call your doc. good luck!

baby.bray - 87 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I feel/believe that pregnant women have a 'sub-consious baby movement counter' so if you feel like the baby has slowed down or you have any cause for concern then start counting the movements of course and contact your midwife/doctor but I wouldnt worry about making sure that you catalogue every single movement every single day, especially since your baby is so active x

jessicadarling - 87 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) You are supposed to start doing this at 28 weeks. You want to feel at least 10 movements in an hour long period during the day but NEED to feel at least 10 in a 2 hour period. Otherwise there is cause for concern. It doesn't have to be in EVERY 2 hour period during the day. Just make sure at some point in the day you feel 10 kicks in 1-2 hours.
