My doctor wants to induce me May5th and my due date is May15th. I`m not too big or uncomfortable at this point. I don`t see why I should induce unless there are issues. I`m just curious -is everyone is being induced after 38 weeks these days and how safe is it? Any one have complications due to inducing drug?

I got induced 5 days after edd - i had no problems and gave birth to a healthy baby girl... if theres no problems i would ask them to book you in after your due date to give your baby a chance he/she obviously isnt ready at the minute. take care x

Do not induce. Sometimes doctors want to induce a woman early because it is most convenient for their schedule. If your baby isn't ready, and it's before your due date, don't do it.

I have been induced 10 days early with 2 of my pregnancies, but it was due to the size of the baby (both over 9 lbs. at that point) I think you should have a valid medical reason to be induced. If you don't want to just say so, this is your pregnancy and your birth, do it how you want to.

Do not induce, I know most doctors try to induce their patients for their own selfish reasons. My sister in-law gave birth last month and the docter wanted to induce her because he wanted to take a early vacation. I heard if you are induced your chance of having a C-Section increase. All my friends that were pregnant said the doctor wanted to induce them even though it wasn't for any medical reason. The only way I would get induced is if I go pass 42wks.

I have heard from a friend of mine that her Dr. was prone to induction at 38 weeks. I thin though you should ask him why he wants to and he his answer doesn't seem good enough I'd get another Dr. to look at you and tell you what he thinks...good luck and congrats!!!!

I was natural induce at 37 weeks with my last( they did a cervix swipe), and thank GOd my OB did. My son had severe shoulder distotia and he was 9 pounds 2 oz. I he had been to term it would had been c-section for sure. But in your situation I dont see why your doctor would want to do that have you ask him directly is reason for suggesting it.Some doctor dont tell us everything. As for the drugs. The labour is faster and more intense. With my daughter they actually drug induce me and it was not a wonderful experience.Lots of intense pain, coming very fast, much worst than natural delivery.

I would question the doctor on why? Does the doc forsee some kind of complications or something? I haven't heard of someone being induced before their due date for any reason other than a medical one.

No major complications for me, and I had a pretty crazy birth... I would only be induced it's deemed medically necessary.

It seems odd that your Dr would want to induce, and early, when there is no apparent reason for it. I would talk to him/her about why they are suggesting it. I think that overall, it is safe to induce at 38 weeks. With today's medical knowledge and advances baby is more than safe. Remember though, that inducing doesn't always work. If baby isn't ready to come he/she won't. I have a friend who was overdue and they tried TWICE to induce here with no luck. finally, a few days later baby came all on her own.

I know they typically induce women around 38 weeks if you have placenta previa..

Yes you should definatly question it. There is no reason to induce if everything is ok. And if there is a concern you should know about it! I was induced both times except with my second i had regular contractions for an hour and then they stopped. I was between 3 and 4 cm and i was fine! Could of been like that for a few weeks but doc decided to unduce at 36 weeks! I begged her not too but she said i can walk out but it will be against medical advice. Seriously im still mad about it...I told her who cares that i have a 2 hour drive...i can make it! After induced it still took 2 1/2 hours so i would of been completly fine! But the inductions were ok and no problems.

You need to question why. Unless there was a medical reason, I would not do it. My doc won't induce until you are a week late. The drug they give makes really bad contractions and a hard labor. It is better to go naturally. You have the right to say no. Ask the doc for the reason. If there is no medical reason, I would wait. Your body knows when it is ready. Labor is a whole lot harder when induced. You are rushing it to do something it usually takes it time doing.

I would really question why? My doctor wouldn't induce unless there was a really good reason- I was 7(not induced) and 10 days overdue. At 10 days overdue I was induced only because I began to leak amniotic fluid. The medicine sometimes doesn't work and can cause cramping. The oxytocin they use to get and keep contractions moving along causes swelling, and hard close together contractions.

I was induced at 38.5 weeks.. I believe i've mentione before but there was reason behind it. Sitting at 4cm 100% for nearly 4 weeks was enough, I had slight G.D., and my first birth was 6 hours and they knew this one would be fast. All they did was break my water though, no drip to get things going. I would be asking why they want to induce you so early. If there is no reason too I wouldn't do it.. let your self go to 40 weeks and then book an induction, unless there is a real reason as to why they want to do it! Good luck!

Why be induced? Did your doctor explain why? I woul dnot be induced. Your baby and body know when to birth. Maybe your doctor has vacation plans for the week you are due. I would not do it.

That's really strange, most doctors want to wait it out as long as possible, not induce you early. Have you asked if there is any reason behind this?

I notice a lot of doctors doing that in the States. In Canada our doctors won't induce until 11 days over your due date. Doesn't matter how big you are. My daughter was measuring 2 weeks ahead and I went over due. Luckily I went in labour 5 days before my scheduled induction. I would recommend not inducing if there isn't a medical reason for it. Let your body see what can happen naturally

If the doctor thinks the baby is going to be big that might be a reason to induce and do it early, its a hormone that your body naturaly produces so it should cause any problems.

I would not be induced unless there were medical reasons for it. I think too many doctors want to induce for their own conviences and scedules. I have only been induced w/ one of my children and went into natural labor w/ my other 3 and I prefer going into labor naturally. It is your decision, so if you don't mind waiting until your baby says he/she is ready then I say wait. God Bless, and congrats!
