Hey ladies....i fully intend on breastfeeding....but i`m a little worried about it working (i`m 32 weeks, and haven`t had any leakage) should i buy (and learn how to use) formula for backup? I don;t want my baby to starve...

I didnt leak much but if your breastfeeding your body will produce what your baby is taking from you - my baby took alot of milk therefore i couldnt express coz there was nothing left but she obviously got enough now shes 6 months and a very healthy baby.

No - if you have formula on hand you will be tempted to use it! Buy a breast pump instead, and expel as often as you can. You will have plenty of milk.

Don't worry once you give birth your breast will be overflowing with milk

i NEVER leaked during my 1st pregnancy. All my milk came 2 days after i had him and then i leaked like crazy. not even those pads you put in your bra to protect you from showing on your shirt. PFTTT, it'd go right thru the pads. lol.. i had back up formula but no need to overstock on backup formula. you may not even use it.

I had backup formula with my first baby and never used it. Same with my second. It might temp you to use it when you dont need it sometimes. It tempted me. I gave it away. :)

Its normal for women not to have colostrum during pregnancy, I breastfed for 15mos with my first and had colostrum starting at 5mos, with this pregnancy I haven't had any. Your milk will come in after the baby is born, at first it will be the yellow colostrum and then your real milk will come in withen a couple of days.

I never had any leakage with my pregnancies. It actually takes a few days of nursing for your milk to come in. Most people I talked to when nursing said they got milk within 4 days I actually got mine within 48 hours of my first nursing with my kids... best of luck, some people who even have milk flow suppliment with formula, if things aren't working at the hospital they usually send you home with formula/bottles to help while you are trying to get the hang of the whole nursing process and remember LACTATION NURSES AND CONSULTANTS ARE KEY TO SUCCESS.. I love them all!!

Although with my prev pregnancies I leaked before the baby.. I hear its quite natural not to.. I read somewhere that it could take up to 3 days after ur baby is born for the milk to come in..I'm hoping thats the case because I intend to breastfeed as well :o)

Many women don't leak during pregnancy, I didn't at all with my last two and only had one brief leaking episode with this pregnancy. Once baby comes your body will know what to do and your milk will come in. :)

Your body is an amazing thing, your baby is not going to starve. I did buy formula while I was pregnant for the same reasons you are afraid of. I love breastfeeding but every once in a while I need a break and my boyfriend will make her a bottle and I am free to have a LONG bath or a nap and not have to worry about having to feed her. PLUS i am uncomfortable with being out in public and needing to breastfeed so days we go out I just make up a bottle of formula.

No. It's a state of mind. Your body was created to breastfeed. Pump your milk and never use formula. Pumping when the baby is not suckling will also help insure that your milk comes in properly and is enough. Also, it will help with engorgement.

Just because you are not leaking doesn't mean you won't produce enough. The best thing you can do is, when you first get your milk in, you will over produce. You can pump and freeze it. Also, if you want, you can pump after nursing. I didn't use formula at all with my third. I breastfed her till 1 year. I did it a little longer with each child. I never leaked while preggers with my first. I did with the second and third. Some people leak and some don't. I over produced with all three. I had enough milk to feed a few kids. LOL

it's not abnormal to not leak yet you may not until the birth of your baby so no worries yet i have a bottle of formula on hand just in case i need it but chances are your milk will come in 24 to 72 hours after your baby gets here and your baby will be just fine you will have colostrum for the first 24 to 72 hours good luck mama

I never leaked while I was pregnant, some do some don't. You will get plenty of help when your baby comes at the hospital or however you are giving birth, congrats and good luck!!
