I dont think of religion when i hear the name Christian - just the actor Christian Slater... Its your son you call him what you feel right. We call our daughter Emogene pronounced (Imogen) i have heard a couple of people say a good guinness name but that wasnt our intentions when choosing the name - i picked it because it means well loved child.

When I hear it as a boys' name, that's all I think of. I don't think of the religion and I don't think of it as a religious name.

I hear both - it's a pretty mainstream name, but I do assume that his family is Christian (in religion). If you don't mind people assuming that, then go ahead with it.

I know of several boys named Christian or that have Christian as a middle name. I don't believe that the name was necessarily a reflection of religion but because they just liked the name. It totally understand the dilemma as your child will have this name for the rest of his life and any connotation that goes with it. I think that either way though it is a beautiful name. Congratulations and good luck with your baby boy.

My sons name is Christian, I chose it not for religious reasons but just because I loved the name. I managed to go 4yrs without anyone calling him Chris, until I met my spouse and he started would not call him Christian, it was always Chris, now I call him Chris myself :)

I hear the boys name Christian. I love that name. I used to babysit a little boy named Christian and I loved him to death although I have no idea how he is doing now or were he is. His Mom was kind of a crazy mom. Although Christian is a statement of religion also, you shouldn't be weary of it. I say go for it!

No I think of the name itself. This was actually one of the names I considered for this baby but we went with a different one instead. Needless to say I absolutely LOVE this name and you should definitely use it. :)

When I meet someone named Christian I do not automatically think of religion. It doesn't even phase me. If I think into it though I assume that his family must be religious. I know that I would not name my son Christian unless I wanted him to have a religious name. But I don't see the name as a statement of religion

I do not see it as being related to the religion at all actually... I think it is a beautiful name! The name Christian doesn't even come from Christianity itself as for example Christ comes from Khristos, which means Messiah in greek. So they are not even related technically... It is different though when a person names their child after religious figures such as Jesus or Mohammad, etc. I would stick with it girl, with no worry!

I've told you some of my feelings on the name. I will add, when I encounter someone named Christian, I don't think automatically of my faith, or wonder if they are Christian themselves (though as I told you, I do find it weird when non-Christians don't think about the meaning and use the name for a child). When I meet a guy named Jesus I assume that his family is religious, likely Catholic. When I meet a boy named Christian, I don't have the same assumption. I think it a lovely name, especially since you are in fact a Christian. Much like Christmas has become mainstream, so has the name Christian.

I think that Christian is a great name. There will be people who see the religious connection ( and they will most likely be religious folks) but others will see a beautiful name for a beautiful baby. Go with your feelings, mom's always right!
