Just wondering if anyone has been able to locate their baby`s heartbeat with a stethoscope? I tried last night at work and couldn`t find it ... I`m not too worried, because she`s still been moving around quite a bit, but just curious if this is common?

I was able to after about 24 weeks. It is very tricky. A lot of times you here either your own heartbeat or all the other sounds. It is noisy in there. It is really neat when you find it. I did find that using the smaller side was better for hearing it.

A normal stethoscope generally isn't powerful enough to hear baby's heartbeat with, until baby is pretty big. You'll pick up your own intestine sounds, but not baby.

I didnt try that but the doppler does a great job at picking it up quite early. x

After 20 weeks, a stethoscope can pick up the heartbeat but it can be tricky to find. Good luck!

i don't have a stethascope but i do have a fetal heart beat monitor which is probably the same thing. I was told to try a few inches to the right and below my belly button. i have to listen hard but i can find it now. At first i just felt stupid listening to white noise.

I used to listen to my baby's heartbeat with my stethoscope and it was lovely. You just need to make sure that it's the baby's heartbeat you are listening to and not the placental blood flow. It makes is easier if you know how your baby is lying. Also, use the small side if you have stethoscope with two sides.

It can be so hard to find the heartbeat and that of course doesn't mean there's anything wrong, it's just that we don't know how baby is positioned the way a doctor can tell right away and know where to check for the heartbeat. It sure is fun trying though and the farther along you get the easier it should be to find.

i had one of those things a friend gave me, forgot the name, but strapped it on my belly hoping to hear the heartbeat, and all i got was static and bumps when he moved..not sure how well a stethoscope works..

It takes awhile . .you have to really, really listen and it's really faint until later on. I don't think that I could here it until after 23 weeks. .but it's niffty to hear her moving around though
