When does a baby start to really see things? My baby is one month old and I feel like he can`t see anything yet, thanks for any answers.

Melanie07 - 82 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Babies see close the day they are born. Their eyes become stronger with in a few months.

kathleen - 85 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) i say it will be a couple more months before u notice him looking at thing with an interest. babies like big bold black and white pictures, it also helps them to focus.

RandiLee - 86 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I've heard they can only see about 12 inches in front of them for the first 2 months.

mattie4 - 86 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) babies see from the womb. They have a hard time focusing . They see things clearly that are held at the distance of say mommy's face when cuddling or feeding. If you have real concerns for his eyesight...talk to your ped, thats my best suggestion.

lady26 - 86 days ago Rating: 5 (1 votes) "Babies see from birth. They are nearsighted, however. They see most clearly at a distance of about 12-18 inches. Not by coincidence, I think, this is roughly the distance from the mother's face to her baby's eyes, when the baby is nursing or cuddling at the breast. Often within a week or two, and almost always by the end of the first month, babies will fix on a colorful object held about a foot in front of their eyes, and slowly move their eyes back and forth to keep the object in sight. Babies only do this "fixing and following" however when they are well rested, alert, not hungry, and not uncomfortable. They may not be in this state very much of the time during the first weeks. But as they get to be one or two months of age, they spend more and more time in this awake and alert state. Premature babies can see, too, but spend even less time awake and alert, and take longer to develop the ability to follow objects with their eyes." — by Robert Needlman, M.D., F.A.A.P.

jessicadarling - 86 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) By 3 weeks old a baby can only see about 8-12 inches in front of his/her face. Which is the distance between a breast feeding baby and mommy's face. Colors are still difficult to focus on and anything far away as well. They say to let new babies look at black lines on a white background because their eyes will see the lines as moving and this will train their eyes as well as keep them occupied.

lmo - 86 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) the babies eyesight should completely develope in the next six months he can see now but it is a little blury

MelissaJoanne - 86 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) It's not that he can't see anything, he just can't see very well yet. He's probably quite near-sighted at this point.

monica9 - 86 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) In a couple of months his sight will be better, but it still wont be complete for a while. its very normal and ive heard you are supposed to put things closer to their face.

Baby3OnWay - 86 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) they can see but I think its still a little fuzzy for them. I believe they can see thing closer to them then things farther away.. it all develops withing the first few months

joyfulnoise - 86 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) He's seeing things, just not clearly. It will come together in the next few weeks you'll notice attempts at following motion. congratulations

gr8scottswife - 86 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) It takes a couple months before their far away vision is fully operative.

UKMama - 86 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) We are born very longsighted. It takes between 4 days and 4 months for it to balance out and the longer the better according to our optician. My first son and first daughter both focused on our faces within hours and both need glasses already. The other two would look away from us after a moment or two as if it were uncomfortable or uninteresting. They took longer to develop balanced sight and as a result both are far less likely to need specs before they are 40, so says our optician. Hope this helps!

niki - 86 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) The babys eyesight will be developing over the next 6 months, another couple of weeks and he should follow things with his eyes. x

kayla-love - 86 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Babies can see but not at long distances. If you get up close to your baby she will see you. Their eyesite takes a while to adjust so they can see everything. In a few months youŽll notice the way your baby is looking at things. This will be a sign that your baby can see better.

Mommyof2boys - 86 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Your baby can see from birth, but can only focus on things closer than 20 to 30 cm from her face for the first few months.

mommy-of-3 - 86 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Here is a really good site that tells you what your baby can see, how far, when they can see in color, etc...http://www.ski.org/Vision/babyvision.html

ashleyandcaleb - 86 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I hope this helps,http://www.babycenter.com/0_developmental-milestones-sight_6508.bc
