This is my 3rd pregnancy and I`ve never had this happen before, but last night about 2hrs after I ate a really sweet piece of pie I felt like my blood sugar just dropped through the floor. I almost threw up (which I`ve never done while pregnant) and I started to black out. I drank some juice, laid down and slept like a baby until my son woke me in the middle of the night with a bad dream. Are their any out there that have had similar experiences, and does anyone know what are some signs of gestational diabetes?

mommy-of-3 - 85 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) This sounds like you might need to report it to your doctor. Have they given you your glucose test yet? I would definitely ask about this in case there is a problem.

Mommyof2boys - 85 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Symptoms Diabetes in pregnancy Published by BUPA's health information team, healthinfo@bupa.com, January 2008. This factsheet is for women who want to know more about diabetes that develops in pregnancy (gestational diabetes). It doesn't give advice for women who already have diabetes and would like to become pregnant. Diabetes can develop during pregnancy in a woman who hasn't previously had the condition. This is called gestational diabetes, and it affects around two percent of pregnant women. It can lead to problems for the mother and baby if it isn't properly controlled. About gestational diabetes Symptoms Causes Diagnosis Treatment Prevention of diabetes Further information Sources Related topics About gestational diabetes Diabetes is a condition in which the blood sugar level is high because there isn't enough insulin, or insulin isn't working properly. Insulin is a hormone that enables your body to break down sugar (glucose) in your blood to be used as energy. During pregnancy, various hormones block the usual action of insulin. This helps to make sure your growing baby gets enough glucose. Your body needs to produce more insulin to cope with these changes. Gestational diabetes develops when your body can't meet the extra insulin demands of the pregnancy. Gestational diabetes usually begins in the second half of pregnancy, and goes away after the baby is born. If it doesn't go away after the baby is born, it's possible that you already had diabetes and that it was picked up during your pregnancy. The other forms of diabetes, called type 1 and type 2 diabetes, are life-long conditions. Symptoms Gestational diabetes doesn't usually cause any symptoms. However, sometimes you may have symptoms of high blood sugar, such as: increased thirst needing to urinate frequently tiredness However, these are also common symptoms in normal pregnancy. Gestational diabetes isn't an immediate threat to your health. However, poorly controlled diabetes in pregnancy puts you at a higher risk of various problems. These include: a condition called pre-eclampsia, which causes high blood pressure premature labour having too much amniotic fluid You are also more likely to develop gestational diabetes in future pregnancies, and are at a higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes later in life.

ashleyandcaleb - 85 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) try telling your doctor maybe? and do research on diabetes, I think it may help,i hope you feel better!

mattie4 - 85 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) usually there isnt any signs...Atleast for me there wasnt and talking to others they didnt have any either. I haven't had that experience before...i have eaten sweets and felt a little sick to my stomach but i always felt it was b/c it was too sweet for my system at the time, and well avoided sweets for a bit (b4 i had G.D.) If you haven't been tested yet, you will be. In the meantime if it keeps happening i would go ahead and talk to your dr.

lady26 - 85 days ago Rating: 5 (1 votes) Well, my friend as had gestational diabetes in both her pregnancy and it cause both her babies to be very big. Her first baby weigh 11 lbs and had to be monitored for a wk by the doctor, the second weigh 10 lbs and had to be monitor for a few days. Some of the signs or symptoms are: Increased thirst Increased urination Weight loss in spite of increased appetite Fatigue Nausea and vomiting Frequent infections including those of the bladder, vagina, and skin Blurred vision Note: Usually there are no symptoms.

lmo - 85 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) you should call your doctor you inslin levels could be off.

klasnaya - 85 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Your mouth would dry out realy bad i heard. Ive never experienced that personaly.

MelissaJoanne - 85 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) If sugary pie made you feel sick, sugary juice shouldn't make you feel better. Good luck with your doctors in Indonesia!

monica9 - 85 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) If your blood sugar dropped right after you ate the pie then it wasnt b/c of the sugar. Your insulin would have shot up then came down really low eventually but not right after. sounds like more of a diabetic shock but you are supposed to eat a serving of a high glucose carb and it will help so it wasnt that. I would call doc and make sure it wasnt your blood pressure.

kbushby - 85 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) i have diabetes and i had it will my first pregnancy. when you eat something really sweet it doesnt make your sugar drop... it makes it shoot through the roof. you got that part backwards... but it will make you feel really sick, VERY tired, and it could make you feel shakey... i saw that you dont have a doctor yet.. but i can give you lots of advice on how to eat when you have gestational diabetes.. its WAY different then people who have regular diabetes..

Baby3OnWay - 85 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) if you had pie.. and then juice.. you definatley would have pasted out. How far along are you right now?? I know I get like this at times too... my hubby is type 1 diabetic and he checks my sugar and its actually lower then normal when I feel like this, which is also diabetes but instead of not having sugar you may need more sugar. Best way to tell is to talk to you Dr about it! I had G.D in my last month of pregnancy last year and it was the same thing so you just never know

ibudoris - 85 days ago Thanks for the advice, I actually don't have a doc yet this time around. I am living in Indonesia in an area with not a lot of actual doctors. Most midwives where I am are dukuns which is the Indonesian word for local witch doctor. That's why I am asking you all what to look for with gestational diabetes and not the local dukun. Why did I get pregnant while we are living here the next three years? Well some things aren't always planned, and as much as you try to prevent them, they happen anyway. I guess I'll just do some more research online and figure it out. Thanks anyway.

akers29 - 85 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I've had the same problems. I asked my midwife about it and she told me it was from my blood sugar dropping.

joyfulnoise - 85 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) You should call your doctor, and have the proper testing done for it.

baby.bray - 85 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) check out this page sweetie and of course its always the best idea to let your dr/midwife know hope this helps :-)..... http://www.diabetes.co.uk/diabetes-and-pregnancy.html

mommy2twogreatkids - 85 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I am really unsure as if you already ate pie it should not make you feel better to drink OJ, at least in my experience. Now your sugar may have been HIGH, and then you really should limit the OJ and Pie! I hope this helps but I would call your Dr.
