What is the difference between a humidifier and a vaporizer? What brands have you liked/disliked? What features are important (cool vs. warm, size, etc.)?

mommy-of-3 - 67 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) A vaporizer creates more of a steam, whereas a humidifier blows cold water into the air. Our house is very dry (we would get shocked on almost everything we touched at one point) and we bought a humidifier and it took care of the problem. Vaporizers are great when you're sick, a good brand is VICKS...

lady26 - 67 days ago Rating: 5 (1 votes) While a vaporizer works by heating water until it turns into hot steam, a humidifier creates a cool mist. Either one may help if your child has a cold. The moist air they create can loosen congestion and may make the throat feel better. The key to using humidifiers and vaporizers is to keep them very, very clean. Germs thrive wherever there is water, so whenever you use the vaporizer, make sure you drain it and clean it thoroughly afterward. Otherwise the bacteria that accumulate can get vaporized into the air and end up in your child's lungs, where they can cause another infection.

denee85 - 68 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I agree with getting the cool mist humidifier..

monica9 - 68 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I was told to get a cool mist. cool mist brings moisture into the air and helps relieve colds.

lmo - 68 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) i like the vicks plug in it is a night light and you put a little vicks stick in it and it is not too over powering with the scent

niki - 68 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I bought humidifiers to put beside the radiator, vicks vaporizer can be a good job i bought a plug in one it has a night light and i found it excellent when my daughter had the snuffles.

Mommyof2boys - 68 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) A humidifier is a household appliance that increases humidity. A vaporizer uses heat to vaporize medicinal and/or psychoactive chemical compounds into a form that may be inhaled and absorbed by the body.

Baby3OnWay - 68 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I bought one by sunbeam... I paid $35 CND for it and it came with the hot and cold. Cold is said to be best for young children, humidifier add the cool mist into the air making it less hot and more moist, vaporizers add hot mist and vapors (like adding the vics) into the air. Vics and things like that are not good for the baby and cool air is what they say is the best for your child! I bought the two in one though cause eventually they will get older and one day may want the vapors of vic to help them with cold and flu... check to see if you can get the duo as it was just as much to buy them seperate! Best of luck

MelissaJoanne - 68 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I would recommend a cool mist humidifier. I've had a couple different brands of them through the years. The main thing to look for is that it is appropriate for the size of room that you'll be putting it in. I currently have a Bionaire brand that I'm really happy with. I've also tried Holmes brand, and Vicks brand, and this current one is my favourite. Other than being the appropriate size, make sure that you clean it and change the filter frequently.

Melanie07 - 68 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Humidifier is cool mist. It is recommended by most doctors. Vaporizer is warm mist. The easiest way to remember is heat makes vapors. Cool mist puts humidity in the room. That is what your want. Humidity is moister in the air.

jessicadarling - 68 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I also have the Vicks Cool Mist! My daughter when breast feeding takes too much milk and it comes out her nose and dries up in her sinuses. The humidifier helps clear her out. The hum is quiet enough to sleep yet provides a good amount of white noise so it is easy for her to fall asleep as well.

kmokat - 68 days ago Rating: 5 (1 votes) I also recommend the cool mist. I have one going all the time in my bedroom because I have been having sinus problems and since I am breastfeeding I cannot take a decongestant. I have had several and the one that seems to work the best is the one I got my daughter. We got it at BabiesR'Us. It is shaped like a cow (they also come shaped like other animals). It worked so well that we now have one in our room. Here is the link: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2474554 They are sold at Target as well. You can read how it was rated people who purchased it on both websites, as well as read up on other humidifiers.

ashleyandcaleb - 68 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) yea i agree with candace3, when i had a cold my doctor recommended me getting one,and keeping it around for the baby,he said it'll help with breathing,so i assume it probably does the same for babies.

candace3 - 68 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) The vaporizors and warm mist humidifier can grow lots f bacteria. The cool mist ones do not. They all do the same thing, put moisture into the air, so I recommend the cool mist. Hope this helps!
