Anyone ever been told their baby has a cyst on their brain? I am freaking out...

mommy-of-3 - 163 days ago Rating: 5 (1 votes) I wouldn't worry just yet, a lot of times doctors find scary things early on that end up being absolutely nothing. When I was pregnant with my first they found some fluid in his chest and they started giving me all these possible horrible things it could be and told me he could need surgery after he was born and all this crazy stuff. At 8 months they did another u/s and it was completely gone, so don't worry!

kater - 163 days ago Rating: 5 (1 votes) yep, this is sooo common! there really isnt anything to worry about, it will disappear. a lot ot=f the time, the doc will ask for a second U/S about a month after the first, just to double check, bu i have a feeling this is more for the parents benefit, because when they saw one on my 20week scan, the doctor wast at all concerned

lady26 - 163 days ago Rating: 5 (1 votes) Sorry, to hear I hope everything turns out fine

MelissaJoanne - 163 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Agreed - don't panic! This can go away by the time you give birth.

Jennifer - 163 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Dont Panic!! When I went in for my 20 wk U/S they saw a cyst on my babies brain. Its called a Chorid Plexus Cyst, my doctor said its nothing to be worried about, he has never seen one not go away. I am having another U/S at 28 weeks to check it again I am sure it will be gone. They explained that its from fluid that gets trapped inside folds of the brain, but as the baby grows it just dissapears...Unless you have other concerns about Downs syndrom and had your test results come back bad, I wouldnt worry at all!! Best of Luck to you!! I will keep you posted about my appointment..Jennifer

Christina1984 - 163 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) not me personally, but some1 else. the doc said to her that the cyst could just go away by the time she gives birth. hopefully that is true for everyone in that situation. how far are u?

Carmione - 163 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I heard about these cysts as well- they normally go away closer to or after birth. Your OB will be better able to explain any other complications that may arise when they do- but for the most part. I wouldn't stress too much about this. It's more common than you think. Stay positive!

lmo - 163 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) i could only imagine how you are feeling. i found this article with a good inside on this http://www.webmd.com/content/article/43/3608_1148.htm hope everything goes ok. good luck

Mommyof2boys - 163 days ago Rating: 4 (1 votes) Found this on webmd.com Your doctor probably saw a "choroid plexus cyst" (CPC) inside the fetus' head. Be reassured that if the CPC is a single small cyst and no other problems are found with the fetus, chances are good that the baby is going to be OK. The choroid plexus is soft tissue in the ventricles, which are fluid-filled spaces located on both sides at the base of the brain. The choroid plexus itself is in the head but not in the brain per se, but it contains fluid that bathes the spinal cord (via the ventricles) and the brain itself. Cysts are pockets of fluid and/or cells. During an ultrasound, a technician will check the choroid plexus for any dark spots, which may indicate fluid or a cyst. In the second trimester, any spot in the choroid that's bigger than 10 millimeters is considered a cyst worth mentioning. CPCs, which occur in as many as one in 40 normal pregnancies, are small cystic areas often found on routine second-trimester ultrasounds. Half the time, CPCs occur on one side of the brain only (unilateral), and the other half they're on both sides (bilateral). Well over 90% of CPCs disappear on their own by the 26th week of pregnancy without ever affecting the fetus. Although there's some controversy over whether fetuses with CPCs have an increased risk of chromosome abnormalities, if there is a risk, it's very small. If a fetus has only one isolated cyst smaller than 10 mm, the risk is probably no more than it would be anyway based on the mother's age. But if the fetus has other abnormalities, the risk rises. That's why it's important to do a thorough ultrasound exam and check for chromosomal anomalies. In most fetuses with trisomy 18 (Edwards syndrome), for example, and many with trisomy 21 (Down syndrome), signs of the abnormalities show up on ultrasound. A complete ultrasound provides information that will help you, your partner, and your doctor decide whether you need an amniocentesis, the ultimate diagnostic tool for chromosomal anomalies. Usually, in the case of CPCs, parents must weigh the risk of having an invasive procedure such as an amniocentesis against their desire to make sure the fetus has no chromosomal anomalies.

Baby3OnWay - 164 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) A friend of mine was going to have the amnio done to see if there were other issues but decided that the risks outweighted the chances... she kept having ultrasound to keep an eye on it and it just got smaller and smaller and eventually was gone before she had given birth to the baby! I wish you all the luck in the world and chin up!!

Melanie07 - 164 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Mine had one but it disappeared. We were very scared at first. A lot of them disappear before birth. Try not to worry too much. I know it is hard.
