My midwife has scheduled me for a u/s next week to check the weight of the baby. Ive read that its may or may not be accurate. Is that normal or harmful at this stage? Has anyone has this done so ate in the pregnancy?

Melanie07 - 83 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I never went to 39 weeks. All mine were born by 38 weeks. Doing and ultrasound is not any more harmfull then any other time it is done. A lot of times it is done for safety reasons. Don't count on the weight the give. They are usually wrong.

poohbear2 - 84 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) i had an ultrasound done at 39 weeks and they told me he was 8lb 6oz. I got induced 2 days later and he came out 9lb 15oz.

Brandi J. - 85 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) The u/s itself should be safe, but it is sooooo difficult to get an accurate weight/size of the baby this late b/c the baby is so big they have to break the measurements up and this makes it hard to be accurate.

Mommyof2boys - 85 days ago Rating: 5 (1 votes) My doctor did a scan at 39 weeks because I showed no signs of labor or going into labor, he wanted to do a measurment of the baby because I have a small pelvic bone and he was worried the baby would get stuck, thank the lord he did it because he was guessing the baby was between 8-9lbs and he said there's no way my bones would open, so we had to do a c-section, if we waited any longer and I did go into labor I would or the baby would have been in big trouble. Ultrasounds are very safe in pregnancy, studies have shown ultrasound is not hazardous. There are no harmful side effects to you or your baby. In addition, ultrasound does not use radiation, as X-ray tests do.

mommy-of-3 - 85 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I've never heard of them doing an u/s just to check the weight but I suppose every place is different. No worries about having it done though, u/s are perfectly safe regardless of how early or late you are in the pregnancy. :)

lady26 - 85 days ago Rating: 5 (1 votes) It's not common but it's definitely not harmful

mattie4 - 85 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) i've had u/s late in the game, It is no more harmful at 20 wks than 39 wks :) Relax and enjoy seeing your baby once more b4 the big day :)

ashleyandcaleb - 85 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) It's most likely safe, i dont think they'd schedule one if it wasn't.have fun seeing your baby :)

MelissaJoanne - 85 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) It's normal and won't harm you or baby at all. Weight checks by u/s are always an estimate, so it may not be completely accurate, but it will give a rough estimate.

Laura14 - 85 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) i had an ultra sound at 38 weeks and the weight was accurate but some can be a lil off, it isnt harmful enjoy seeing bubs in the belly for the last time before you meet him/her:)))

jessicadarling - 85 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) It is normal. Usually they do it after 40 weeks to see the size of the baby just in case you need to go to induction. The ultrasound can only get a rough estimate of the baby's weight and size but this helps them know whether or not to perform a c-section.

njstewy - 85 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I had one done too at 39weeks, I guess that's it's normal and you get to find out what you might be pushing out, lol, they predicted almost 8lbs for me and that was a week and half ago, makes me wonder how big she is now!

mtnwoman - 85 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I had an ultrasound at about 36 weeks. They wanted to check my amniotic fluid levels. It didn't do any harm, BUT I think the weight they said he was was wrong. They told me 6lbs 1oz. They are supposed to gain about 1/2lb a week, and 6-7 weeks later(he was overdue) he was only 6lbs 9oz when born. Don't stress about it too much!

kmokat - 85 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) The ultrasound this late won't hurt anthing and yes they could be off on the babies weight.

slg3233 - 85 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I am considered a high risk pregnancy,so I get a u/s done once every month. And it hasn't harm the 2 babies that I have now. So it should be fine.

Baby3OnWay - 85 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I have had it done so late!! as for the size its merely an estimate but its not always accurate. they said my baby was close to 9lbs and then a week and a half later he was born at 7,7

Nan639 - 85 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I had at least a dozen ultrasounds with my first pregnancy. I remember having one as late as 37-38 weeks. She turned out just fine. :)

monica9 - 85 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I am having an u/s done once/ week b/c im anemic. it isnt harmful to the baby especially the one that they check on your stomach. the internal u/s's are a little more invasive but still harmless. woman get those done sometimes 2/weeks to check for dilation. no big deal, baby will be fine!!

leanie093 - 85 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) with my son i forgot what week it was but i had an u/s late to also see how big he was. they said 8lbs.and he came out 7lbs. 4 oz.so they can be a little or over or a little under. But my doctor this time around does an u/s at every visit. he says he likes to look at baby and make sure they're growing. ppl who say too many u/s are bad for baby is a bunch of crap. doctor told me u/s are in no way invasive or harmful on baby as long as the person doing the u/s does it correctly. and my DOCTOR is the one that actually does my u/s so i know i'm in good hands. no worries about ur u/s, have fun taking one last look at baby inside you b/c next baby will be outside & in your arms =]

mooboo35 - 85 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I had an u/s at 34 weeks because my waters were slowly leaking, they said my baby was very small for the gestation, I gave birth at 35 weeks and she weighed 5lb 8oz which is really good for a 35 weeker, so yeah the u/s can be off by a bit, I wouldnt worry just enjoy it that you are gonna get to see you little one again before he/she gets here.

lmo - 85 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) i had a ultra sound everytime i went to the doctor. no worries, i think if something was wrong the midwife would of let you know. and yes you can measure 2 weeks behind or ahead of what you were originally told.
