I never heard that. I do know that babies can sense your feelings. They can pick up on stress. That does effect how they act. Babies from happy homes are much happier babies.

the baby senses your emotions so if you do something around it, it will most likely do the same

I think if you are an unhappy person, or cry a lot around your baby, they will pick up on the emotion and be an unhappy baby. Although I tried being ultra calm and relaxed, thinking I would have a calm, settled baby, but it certainly didn't work that way!

Babies can feed off your stress levels- if you are stressed out, your baby is likely to be stressed out too because it senses you are upset. If you are happy, then baby might be fine, but they do have their own personality too. My baby is pretty easy going, but then again, so am I and my husband as well. He gets upset though if we raise our voices or get upset. I learned that one when I was 12 and baby sitting for the first time, the baby I was holding was crying and I was crying because I couldn't get him to stop and got frustrated and he just cried louder. The same thing happened with my son when he was newborn, crying and I was tired. I had to occasionally give him to my husband who would be calmer and the baby would stop crying. All babies do cry when they are born- its quite a shock to their systems to not be warm anymore- but I've seen some births where a baby does not cry. Crying initally does also help clear their noses and lungs of amniotic fluid, making breathing easier for them. My advice though is to stay calm and happy and your baby will be happy- as it will pick up on your mood. Your baby is concerned for you too and just wants a parent who will be happy and take care of him or her well.

Actually, your state of mind CAN affect you child in utero. Being sad here and there will not really affect the child. However, if you are under some serious stress, you can pass some serious issues onto the unborn, and even set them up for others later in life. You already know that stressful lives can lead to shorter life expectancies. The reason is because the body has coping mechanisms to deal with the environment and it's stressors. You body will release certain chemicals that help you deal with it. Most of the time, these chemicals can have ill effects on the baby. The baby doesn't have stress inside you(unless there is a medical condition), and exposing him/her to something that is not normal, can affect how he/she responds to stress later in life. I could go one forever, but you get the idea. A good place for some resources is mercola.com. See if that helps out.

No there is no truth to this at all, every baby has their own unique personality and they cry when they have needs that haven't been met not because you cried while you were pregnant.

I was a big cry baby when I was preggo, I cried cuz I wet myself and I cried if I saw something sad on tv and my baby cam eout mad, screaming at the top of his lungs and he has always been a very very happy baby, ppl comment how happy he is. I think when a baby's needs are met, when they feel the love you have for them, when you cuddle and just love them and keep them safe, warm, dry and fed then it makes them a happy baby because they are having all thier needs met.

I cryed alot with my son, but he didn't come out crying. He is a very happy child and loves to be around me. But I can say he is very protective of me.

my mother is a child developmental psychologist, and has done research into this area. she found that the main problem is after the baby is born, because baby can sense the emotion of their care giver. although, personality traits are inherited, so a baby's coping mechanism for high levels of stress can affect how the baby reacts too. but in short, during pregnancy, a woman crying a lot isnt going to make for a sad baby, the thing likely to make a difference is the environment and personality of the baby.

Haha....not true...but yea, your baby does feed off your emotions, they "feel your pain" so to speak... but that doesn't mean your baby is going to mimic your exact personality.

no, they might be slightly affected by your stress and obviously if there was stress and noise in the house, but it wont traumatize them and crying sure wont do anything

I don't think it has been proven, but I believe that babies can sense your attitude and emotions and feed off of them. But always being a happy mom does not mean always having a happy baby or vice verse!

I don't think that has any basis in truth. I'd say that most pregnant women are sometimes happy and sometimes crying, as are most babies.

Dear lilpunkprincess07,
I don't think that's necessarily true.
I mean all babies cry a lot... and it's very natural for a pregnant woman to cry often during pregnancy because of hormones and how quickly everything changes.
I do believe though that the happier and more positive you can be the easier things will be for you and your baby in the long run.
Best wishes,
Bonnie.

I don't think that they have anything to do with eachother..But you should always try to relax and not overstress when you're pregnant as the baby CAN sense this and it's not good for him/her

hmm i dont think thats true necessarily...i do however suggest that stress is limited although sometimes that can be difficult it is important as baby can sense these things...everyone has bad days and babys can pick up atmospheres around them but it doesnt mean baby will be unhappy:)it is important to have fun and play with baby and interact with him..a loved and supported baby is a happy baby :)
