I have had a really bad cough and the doc told me to take robitussin but I cant afford to go buy medicine right now, but I have vicks 44 is it safe??

Melanie07 - 158 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I would not take the vicks 44. You can suck on peppermint. The real peppermint is best. They sell packs of the soft peppermint candies for about a buck at most grocery stores. The ingredients are peppermint oil, sugar, and color. It is also good for congestion and indigestion.

LMO - 159 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) i dont know whether it is or not call your local pharmacy or call the doctor to see..maybe they have samples you can have

kailz - 159 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Not sure if that is safe but i also have a cough its quite chesty and my nana has a remedy that ive had for years doesnt taste to bad either she mixes honey, lemon juice and a little bit of oil together. a table spoon or two a day helps it go away:) hope this helps

gr8scottswife - 160 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Robitussin is good. So are cough drops.

Brandi J. - 160 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) This is what I found on the "safe to take during pregnancy" chart. I think that if you have Vicks Vapor Rub it would be the safest. Rub it on the bottom of your feet and cover your feet w/ socks, this gets rid of our coughs, and then do it again when the cough starts back. Guaifenesin, an expectorant (Hytuss, Mucinex, Naldecon Senior EX, Robitussin), Dextromethorphan, a cough suppressant (Benylin Adult, Robitussin Maximum Strength Cough, Scot-Tussin DM, Vicks 44 Cough Relief), Guaifenesin plus dextromethorphan (Benylin Expectorant, Robitussin DM, Vicks 44E), Cough drops, Vicks VapoRub, Avoid cold remedies that contain alcohol. Also avoid the decongestants pseudoephedrine and phenylephrine, which can affect blood flow to the placenta.

slg3233 - 160 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I would definitely ask the doctor first.

Debra - 161 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I'll agree with the honey/lemon in hot water, you can also take zinc lozenges- suck on them and they really help with a cough- zinc helps to boost the immune system and is safe for pregnancy- just don't take more than the remmended amount on the bottle. You can also safely take a vit c supplement and you also might want to start acidophilous now (see my VIP site for more on that) as Acidophilous will boost your immune system as you promote a healthy digestive tract. make sure you are drinking a lot of water too- this will help to ease your cold.

jaydsmom - 161 days ago Rating: 5 (1 votes) I know it sucks, but my dr told me the only true way to be safe is suffer it out. Most otc cought medicines are not proven to be perfectly safe during pregnancy. They havent shown any REAL signs of problems, but havent been proven the other way either. Use some halls, some warm tea (pref decaf) and put some honey and lemon in your tea. I feel for you, I just went through this and it sucks, but I'd never forgive myself if the baby had a problem based on the fact that I couldnt live with a cough. And... buying nothing medicated costs less.

MelissaJoanne - 161 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Vicks 44 has a few ingredients that haven't been proven safe to take during pregnancy (dextromethorphan, alcohol, plus a lot of junky ingredients like high fructose corn syrup and saccharin). I'm dealing with a nasty cough right now too. Stuff you can use to help it that you might already have around - boil water and breathe in the steam, or run your shower and breathe in that steam; drink decaf tea, add honey and lemon if you have it, even a dash of lemon juice concentrate will help; a spoonful of honey by itself is really soothing too; and drink as MUCH water as you can. It's really hard, but everytime you have the need to cough, drink water. Good luck!

keyleesmommy - 161 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) NO ITS NOT....IF IT HAS ALCOHOL IN IN THEN YOU CANT TAKE IT BUT YOU CAN TAKE JUST ABOUT ANYTHING OVER THE COUNTER....

Godispeace - 161 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I think you should talk to your dr's nurse or the dr. himself. You don't want to take anything just because someone took it when they were pregnant. There's too many risks for you and your baby.

lady26 - 161 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Honey with a lime or lemom

Christina1984 - 161 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) i have a list from my doc on what is safe and its not on it. do u have any ludens or halls? if u have ins. that covers persciptions ask ur doc to prescibe u something, sometimes they can even get u robitussin.try tea with honey and lemon if u have it

candace3 - 161 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) My dr said over the counter cough syrup do the same as taking water. They do not help. I would try to drink warm water with lemon and honey. Lots of cough drops. It it doesn't get better, then get checked out. I am just getting over bronchitis, and I had to get a prescription cough syrup. Good Luck!

mcbender3 - 161 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I would ONLY take what your doctor said to take. Usually Robitussin Dm or Robitussin Plain is the only thing for cough during pregnancy. Do you have a walmart near you.. they sell the generic brand of Robitussin at only a dollar something. I used it about 3 months ago and my cough didn't get better but it's becuase i had brochitis. BUt i wouldn't take anything else other than what your doctor said to.

Mommyof2boys - 161 days ago Rating: 5 (1 votes) Take a ts of plain honey every 4-6hrs. will do wonders!! hope you feel better soon!

monica9 - 161 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) i would check with your doctor first.

Baby3OnWay - 161 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I do know that vicks rub is ok! and a nice hot tea...

ashleyandcaleb - 161 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I just looked it up on the internet it doesnt really give a straight answer, but i think you should ask your doctor,or labor and delivery.feel better soon:)
