Can anyone offer any advice on what to do about my nighttime blocked nose? When I am tired, I fall asleep but the first time I need to get up for the toilet, I go back to bed with a blocked nose then find it hard to breathe, meaning I stay awake for ages - blowing doesnt do anything, I cant shift it. Has this bothered anyone else and kept them awake at night? I sleep with fresh air coming in. Please help......

A humidifier may help, also sleeping one two or more pillows instead of one, if this is uncomfortable, try propping up the head of your bed for the time being.

I had the same problem. Hormones make your sinuses swell. You can try using a humidifier. Also, if you are past 12 weeks you can take plain Claritin or Benedryl. I would try the humidifier first. Drug free is best. I went drug free as long as I could. I ended up having to take Claritin. It has to be the plain Claritin. Definitely get the humidifier.

I would take a warm LONG shower and breathe the steam in, afterwards blow your nose and you can use a air purifire to help and the warm shower will help you sleep.

Its your hormones and increased blood volume. This causes your mucous membranes to swell (the soft tissue inside your nose and mouth). The swelling will block your nose- more likely to occur at night. This is also why pregnant women's nose and gums tend to bleed more as well. The humidifier might help- or the breathe right strips. I would avoid medications- even vicks which is made with petroleum (a white gas product). For a natural decongestant- check out www.mother-earth.ca and their herbal rosemary rub decongestant. We've been using their products with our son and the decongestant has done wonders to help with several colds this winter- and most recently croup this week.

It happens to me too. I use a humidifier in my bedroom right next to my bed, and that really helps me with the stuffy nose. If I don't use it I get really blocked up. As long as I have the humidifier going, my sinuses clear up enough that I can sleep. I'd really recommend it, as it is safer and probably works better than medication-type options.

Your doctor can prescribe some safe medication for this. It is likely due to allergies, and when that happens to me, nothing but medicine works. It's the pits. So far this season, I have been able to breathe, although the sneezing has increased over this past week.

I feel your pain. I end up sleeping with my mouth wide open, snoring and drooling. :)

I hated when my nose was stuffed up. I used Vix Vapor Rub, I elevated my pillows alittle more so my head wsa alittle bit higher and I also kept a glass of water next to my bed. I used the water because my mouth was so dry from breathing thru it. Hope you find something that works.

I've had a constant stuffy nose since day 1 of this pregnancy, accompanied by nose bleeds. What seems to be helping me is having a humidifier in the bedroom and using saline nasal spray throughout the day.

I've had sinus problems for the last three years, so you can imagine how much worse it got once I got prenant. I'm now 19 weeks along, & can't go a single night without a breath-rite on my nose. If you still wake up a little stuffed, you should be able to blow out anything that's now plugging you up, as the strip should reduce the swelling. GOOD LUCK!!!

I constantly have a stuffed nose no matter what I do. they say to use non medicated saline mist but that doesnt help too much. you can try breath rite strips on your nose but I have been bad and spraying my nose with medicated spray only once before i go to bed but it helps me get through the night. my doc didnt seem concerned when i told her.

I agree with baby3onway, breathe right strips, but you can also use a saline nasal spray. It just keeps everything moist and makes it easier to breathe.

I don't know if you get the brand Brauer (I'm assuming you're in the US) but they have a sinus relief formula that is homeopathic and totally safe for pregnancy. It comes in either an oral spray or tablets, and is excellent for clearing the blocked stuffys! Also remember to minimise your intake of those common allergens like dairy and wheat etc. When we're pregnant I find that because our immune systems have to allow us to maintain a baby without seeing it as a parasite, sometimes ther things are compromised. Like our sinuses! So just take it easy on the cloggy, mucousy stuff. Hugs!

I get that too and its bad when i first get up in the morning too. I asked the Dr and pharmasist and I got a non-medicated nasal spry that moistens and clears the nose, and at night I started to use these strips (drug FREE) called Breathe Right. Relieves nasal congestion, reduces snoring too!! haha you can get them for different skin types as well and you just put the thin clear strip over your nose.. works GREAT!!!
