Picky Eater

I`m an extremely picky eater, & now that I`m actually getting my normal (and growing) appetite back, I`m worried that I`m not getting enough fruits & vegitables. I`ve tried all the normal fruits, & I still only like watermelon & granny smith apples. Everything else makes me gag. I can`t drink any fruit juices, as diabetes runs high on both sides of my family. The same goes for veggies, I only like a handful, & tire of them very quickly. Can anyone give me some ideas on different ways to get the nutrients that come with fruits & veggies another way?

mrscolegrove - 210 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) there are lots of natural ways other than actually eating them try going to a mother earth store and talking to one of the people there i cant eat lots of things and the all natural supplements are safe but make sure to tell your doctor mines says there perfectly fine it just has to be natural

brandi j. - 211 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) To get more fruits and veggies in your diet, try a whole food supplement like JuicePlus, I hear that it is great and it is a whole food supplement so that is even better!! Also, if you like the V-8 drinks or the V-8 Fruit Fusion (tastes like fruit), then these could be good for you too. I'm like you, I don't eat as many fruits and veggies as I should either. Also, what Melanie07 tells you is good too!

Melanie07 - 211 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Just be sure you are taking your prenatals. As long as you are getting some fruits and veggies you will be fine. Also, fruit smoothies are really good and easy to make. You can also mix a veggie in the fruit smoothie. You won't be able to taste it. Google some fruit/veggie smoothie recipes online. Make sure you have a good blender. You need one for crushing the ice.

mellowyellow - 211 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) How about a fruit smoothie. I was completley off vegies, couldn't even bear to touch them, but good old Ma made me some vegie soup and cause I didn't have to prepare it i was happy to eat it! Good Luck!

Mommyof2boys - 211 days ago Rating: 1 (1 votes) Make sure you are taking your vitamins and try some of the pregnancy drinks they have with lots of nutrition in them, one of my favs is the yo momma yogurt is really good and healthy.

niki - 211 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I have a sister in law that is much the same as you and what she done was take vitamins as supplements for the foods you dont eat... she now expecting her 3rd child.

MelissaJoanne - 211 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) You should try 'sneaking' fruits and veggies into foods that you DO like. Obviously you'll know they're there, but with the right recipe you won't taste it, and you'll be getting the nutrients. I think that the other option is to just make yourself eat something even if you don't like it. Pick the least offensive/highest vitamin fruit or veggie you can, and be determined to eat it. After 5-6 eatings, you'll start to get used to it and not find it so dislikeable. Take the same approach with yourself as you would when introducing a child to a new food. And, if you're not already purchasing organic, definitely try organic produce. There is a noticeable taste different that may make it more tasty to you (as well as the health benefits from lack of pesticides). Farmers markets have much yummier produce than the grocery, too, so check them out if you can. I've made myself like a few foods that I didn't used to, because I was determined to like them! I'm a vegetarian and used to hate mushrooms, but that was so inconvenient that I decided to eat them anyway. They eventually went from being something gross that I put up with to something that I really love. At this point I will try anything that's not an animal, and will probably like it at some point. You can get vitamins just from your prenatal, but the foods that you're eating now help to develop your baby's palate as well. Baby will have a hard time developing a taste for foods that you completely avoid. Good luck!

babyluna - 211 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) try making some stews with vegetables, as it boils vegetables will release alot of nutrients, and just try having the stew by itself with a couple of salted crakers, it worked great for me =)

Debra - 211 days ago Rating: 4 (1 votes) dried fruits? cooking fruits? I liked cooking strawberries and banannas in oatmeal for breakfast. I was also addicted to fruit though and had little veggies. I do like cucumber salads- or cut up with some salt on them, or a nice salad. v8 juice is always a good consumption. If you are worried about diabetes- its more important to stay away from complex carbs (cookies/sweets/baked goods) than from natural sources of fructose like fruits and veggies. Try steaming veggies- carrots and broccoli or mixing it with something- like blending with potatoes and onions or putting together slow cooker dinners that have a good mix- like stews or pasta sauces.

RandiLee - 211 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Drink V8....that's what i do...there's 2 servings of vegetables in one little drink.

denee85 - 211 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Just try to sneak in healthy bits here and there in your meals..And take your prenatal vitamin..

LMO - 211 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) prenatal vitamins

Baby3OnWay - 211 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) prenatal viamins... other suppliments. Smooties and shakes are great. Fruit yogurt if you like that, V8 juice ( I know you said no juices) try dipping your veggies in different dips or fruits dipped in yogurt, caramel or chocolste... OK now I'm making myself hungry haha just experiment!

gr8scottswife - 211 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Prenatals and try a calcium supplement, along with eating meat. Protein, iron, folic acid, and calcium are most important now.

KarenVG - 211 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Tomato juice or similar drink if you like it, your vitamins should be good. Can your doctor not send you to see a nutritionist? they may have some good ideas to help you.

leahs - 211 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Take your prenatal vitamins and don't worry too much about missing certain foods. You are eating some fruit and veggies, that's better than some people. I was luckly I craved fruit and V8 my whole pregnancy. Maybe blend some fruit up with ice and make a smoothie, might make it more appealing.

lady26 - 211 days ago Rating: 5 (1 votes) Try taking a prenatal vitamin

skittles0607 - 211 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) You should try a juicer. You can buy fruits and veggies and make your own drinks. You can mix some together and come up with different flavors. Its healthy and you can experiment with it. I have a juicer and I love it.

ashleyandcaleb - 211 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Maybe you should try v8,i thought it would be disgusting but tis not,it just tastes like tomatoes.I'm like you a very picky eater, and its the same with the diabetes thing. So i started the v8.it isnt bad at all.

lizzie287 - 211 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I'd say make sure you're definitely taking your prenatals, and eat however many fruits and veggies you can stomach. Have you tried V8 juice? I don't know, but it doesn't seem to me like it would have a high sugar content if you like it. And then maybe talk to your doctor about supplementing with additional vitamin tablets.

christina1984 - 211 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) they say ur body knows what it needs during pregnancy. doctors say that cravings for certain things is actually something in that food that the baby needs but it is unexplained still as to how are body can do that. ur baby is getting what it needs even if u think its not. take ur vitamins too good luck

monica9 - 211 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) as long as you are liking some of them. stick with them b/c its better than nothing. You can change up the flavor of your veggies by putting different sauces on them, diff. dips, even bread and bake them or put into a casserole.
