Hey everyone, Im 40 weeks and have had the go ahead from my Dr. I`m currently trying Castor oil to see if it will encourage my labour. What are your experiances on this type of induction? I really dont want to be medically induced and i have tried everything else. Nothing is happening just yet but i only took it half and hour ago. Thanks for answers xx

Brandi J. - 80 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) What I have read about castor oil, I personally would not use it. I have read that it is messy and alot of times does nothing and tastes nasty. I also have read that it can cause the baby to have his/her first bowel movement before birth. So needless to say I have never tried this method, but what I feel worked for me w/ baby #4 was making love, immediately afterwards stimulating nipples (but only 1 at a time and only for 5 min each, I only did this one time) and then I went for a walk. This started my contractions and I delivered her a few hours later. Good luck to you and Congrats!!!

Mommyof2boys - 80 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Castor oil almost always causes diarrhea. Its primary use is a stimulant laxative. It has an unpleasant taste and may cause nausea, vomiting, and abdominal cramping. Castor oil is a laxative. It is believed that castor oil works to stimulate the bowels. It can lead to cramps and tightening of the muscles in the intestines. These cramps may spread to the uterus, tightening the uterine muscles and stimulating contractions. These contractions may or may not lead to the onset of active labor. The verdict is still out on castor oil's effectiveness at inducing labor. Some women swear by it. Others feel it is nothing more than an old wives tale and pure coincidence for the women who do go in labor. There have been very few studies on castor oil as used for labor induction. Therefore, the long and short answer to this question is maybe. I found these recipes on a website and thought they were cute but may be nice to try if you don't want that yucky taste. Goodluck :) Castor oil recipes Castor oil and orange juice 2 oz castor oil 1 tsp baking soda 6 oz orange juice Castor oil milk shake 2 oz castor oil 2 or 2 scoops ice cream 1/4 cup milk blend in blender Castor oil shots 2 oz castor oil shot followed by sucking on a lime or lemon

dcmomof3 - 80 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) i tried it with my first baby..it just really cleaned me out..it wasnt horrible tho, just the taste! my older sister took it tho and gave birth that night!! i think ur cervix has to be ready..and it depends on how much u take.

JennSever - 80 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) i have not done it myself but my lil sister did and ended up with hellacious diarrhea..beware!

Linda-Rose - 80 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Hi there,, I used castor oil 4 my 2nd daughter took it at night before bed than woke up round 2am with contractions,, didnt really get the sh*ts thou luckily,, but if you did, theyd be plenty of time to empty your bowels at home before you go to hospital :) The birth was great, only in labour for 6 hours and needed no drugs at all... I was induced with my 1st daughter, and that was horrible, ended up needing an epidurial coz the contractions came on reall fast, was not a pretty birth :) But then every1s different and i have had 3 friends that the castor oil has worked for and 2 that it hasnt worked for,, good luck either way :) P.s,, if u do try castor oil, brush your teeth straight after as the taste is discusting and hangs round for a while, toothpaste sorta gets rid of the nasty taste :)

Debra - 80 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) So the whole point of castor oil is that you will start having diarrhea and have less pressure on your bladder. Best to do is to stay hydrated, peeing frequently will help you to dilate. Go for walks, have sex, take evening primrose oil (4 caps orally at night, 4 caps insert vag every night before bed) which is a natural prostiglandin and will help your cervix to soften. 9 month tea or red raspberry tea will also help. Start thinking positive thoughts- that you will dilate. Pay attention to your braxton hicks contractions and have positive dilation thoughts about those as well. Hang out around crying babies- as newborn cries will stimulate release of oxitocin- what causes us to go into labour. Nipple stimulation does the same thing. Hang out on an exercise ball, bouncing on it or swaying over top to open your pelvis. Castor oil has been reputed to work- but its more important is avoiding constipation and having loose stools- thats the actual goal so you can also get some fiber mix and put it in your water- I like benefibre. It will have a similar effect without the horrid taste.

niki - 80 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I have heard of people taking it but never had the guts to try it myself.

kalliemae - 80 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) works for some people, not everyone. pitocin for induction is a natural chemical that your body produces anyway. I was induced twice and I hope that if I have a third I will be induced again. Labor is soooooo much quicker that way, I just had my second boy and it was 4.5 hrs start to finish. My first boy was 7 hours start to finish. Cant beat that.

jbsmommy - 80 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) The only thing you are gonna do is make your self sick. at least that is what it did to me when i was ready for my son to be born! take lots of walks and eat the spicy foods!

sgray126 - 80 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I did it 10 years ago with my daughter. I am 35 Weeks and planning to do it again! By the time you get to the hospital you will have already gotten rid of your waste! It took me two times though. I tried it one day and it gave me poops. Then a few days later and it wotked. It poses no harm to the baby!

wildberry - 80 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) i didnt use caster oil i have know woman that have and there is really a split as to whether the painful poo that goes along with it is worth it i used acupressure here are the points i used rub the roof of your mouth with your thumb rub the webbing between your thumb and first finger you will know when you have found the "spot" because it will be tender to the touch this one is my favorite this one lies about half way up the back of your calf again you will know when you have found is as it will be tender this is the combo that worked for me i ate spicy food went shopping had very acword sex and then rubbed all of the points went to bed at 10 and had him the next day at 2:42 pm good luck hon

agonzales - 80 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I would personally never try it. I read it can be harmful to you and your baby. The baby will come out when ready so I would just be patient.

lady26 - 80 days ago Rating: 5 (1 votes) Castor oil is very effect, also try taking long walks and having sex.

christina1984 - 80 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) dont do it! i looked it up and it has some wicked side effects and doesnt always work. it will cause severe diarhia because castor oil actually causes your bowels to contract. it is thought that the bowels contracting will cause ur uterus to contract. instead of going thru that if u have a breast pump start pumping. that is what midwives do to induce labor at 40 wks. also walking helps to bring the baby down. of course we all know that sex brings on labor lol, however some of us cant do it that far along. good luck. pumping really does work tho!

monica9 - 81 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I heard its not that good for you or baby. Look into it more before trying it again. good luck

mayasmom - 81 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I used castor oil with my daughter. It made me very sick, but it did trigger my water breaking, I think. Some people say that labor and delivery nurses hate when moms do this because they can make such a mess while delivering, and others have said that it can make the baby poop in utero, which is of course dangerous....not sure. Good luck, baby will eventualy arrive.

Sueneil - 81 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Babies have their own time. Your little one would come when its good and ready.

UKMama - 81 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I've put exactly what I did with castor oil twice on a blog on my VIP page. But, in short, it worked but I had raging diarrhea for the first 2.5 hours (yet it was before labour got really exciting). You have to get the dose just right though. Too much and you will just have very scary and diarhhea and possibly feel sick too. Not enough and you won't get anywhere either but the diarhhea won't be so bad. Have a look at what I tried and recommend? You're right to avoid medical induction though. Best wishes!

slg3233 - 81 days ago Rating: 4 (1 votes) I haven't tried it! But some people, said it worked for them them and others not.

Baby3OnWay - 81 days ago Rating: 3 (1 votes) I have heard it working for a few friends, not me though I just sat on the toilet for a good few hours HAHA I hope it works in your favor though! The sex did it for me onmy due date and had my baby the next day! Best of luck and keep me posted!! Almost there!!!
