Walk and have sex. Walking worked with all three of mine. Go to the mall and walk. Just remember to keep hydrated.

Hey,
To speed labour up, first try some natural techniques. Contractions may open up the cervix more quickly if you are:
• upright
• regularly changing your position
• eating and drinking according to need (if you're starving, your body cannot produce the energy required to keep contractions going).
These simple measures might be enough to kick-start your labour:
• If you're lying on the bed in the delivery room, get up! Take a walk to the toilet because a full bladder can slow your labour down
• Remember that being relaxed will make labour more enjoyable and probably easier to cope with
• If you're feeling very tense, ask your birth companion to massage your back firmly, or your feet if you're sitting in a chair. Try inhaling a drop of lavender oil on a handkerchief or listen to some soothing music
• Have a small snack if you feel like eating (perhaps some toast), and make sure you're not getting dehydrated
• Rock your hips and lean forwards during contractions to help your womb push your baby firmly down onto the cervix.
Good luck!

I think the advice the women on here have given is great and worth a try I just wanted to add, please try to avoid drugs to induce birth unless you have no other choice, they may speed labour up a little but believe me they also increase the pain to an unbearable level and usually lead to the need for an epidural which can sow things down which leads to more drugs to speed it back up which leads to more epidural because of the pain....... you get where im going. Try any of the natural alternatives offered and trust your body, the other thing that slows labour down in fear, stress or panic try to accept the contractions knowing that each one gets you closer to your bub and move through it, that will speed things up.

I read that evening primrose oil is good to take and not dangerous at all. It helps the cervix ripen. Pineapple is also supposed to be great, you want to eat a ton of it. Oh, my midwife also said the nipple stimulation is good, but it's better if you use a hand held breast pump, not manual stimulation, because the manual doesn't often get the uterus contracting enough. Just be very careful, wait between two to five minutes between stimulation to make sure you don't over contract the uterus. Eating oregano is also supposed to help...thus the eggplant parm theory.
Good old fashioned walking, swaying the hips, water aerobics, etc are always safe and may help.
Who knows what any of these might really do to help, it may just be timing. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you, the time will come when that little baby comes into this world, it may seem like forever now but before you know it she will be walking, talking and getting into all sorts of trouble and you will think back on this day and laugh.

Honestly, there really isn't anything that you can do unless your body is ready. I found that making love helped w/ baby 1, 2, and 4, but did nothing for baby 3, however I didn't dialate alot w/ any of them but it did seem to help me get started. After making love, I would prop my hips up on 2 pillows (sorry if tmi).

This may be alittle bit of TMI but with my second child I had intercourse. I was positioned on my hands and knees and he was behind. You got his inside. I went to bed and woke up at 3 in the morning with contractions. by 5:10 that sam morning I had the baby.

I have heard that walking, having intercourse, drinking lots of water, nipple stimulation and all. But I would definitely go with walking!!! That has helped me with my first pregnancy!

ok, really its up to baby to kick start labor. i tried EVERYTHING with my first pregnancy and STILL had to be induced in the end. I walked like CRAZY & i mean ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT of walking, sex tons of it, tried the ankle massages, tried the nipple stimulation many many times, tried some castor oil (all that did was make me go to the bathroom), and who knows what else i tried. I lostc ount of everything. I say go ahead try all these remedies BUT push come to shove if you don't dilate and you go way past your due date like i did, just ask your doc to be induced. i couldn't take another day being pregnant. good luck

Have a look at my VIP site- taking Evening primrose oil if you are at least 39 weeks is safe. Take 4 caps orally and 4 caps vaginally (insert next to your cervix and let disolve). Best to do this at night, especially the vag insert of the caps as they do leak out and the mess is minimal if you wear a light pad and lay down. EPO is a natural prostiglandin and will cause your cervix to soften, enabling dilation. If your friends or any one you know has a newborn, go visit and listen to the crying. Crying also stimulates the release of oxitocin. Stimulating your nipples has also been known to be successful. My husband also gave me ankle massage towards the end- google this on the web though so you know what you are doing so you can be safe.

Sweep your membranes yourself (the fastest choice), try cervical massage and/or insert a few epo or starflower oil capsules twice a day, plus drink copious amounts of red raspberry leaf tea. That WILL help! As they others say, staying up and active too. [I've put something on one of my blogs about this]
