My friend has had hers for 2yrs now and can't even tell its there. There are really low side effects and the risk are very low and it seems to be a safe choice while breastfeeding. I believe thats what I'll use after this pregnancy because I want something safe and effective and also safe for breastfeeding. Goodluck!

i am not considering a tubal but do need to get on birth control - i talked to my dr about mirena as i feel that pills might dry up my milk and i absolutely can't have that. i get severe migraines so i can't do anything that might be in the body for 3 months and can't be removed ie shot. so, i am looking at iud's.. i think i am going to go with mirena unless i hear some heinous side effects.

I had an appointment to have a tubal done and cancelled it to get a Mirena instead. I had mine put in about 2 1/2months ago. For me the process of putting it in was a little more than I expected, it was done in the dr's office but I had to be swabbed with antiseptic, then they used the speculum (sp)and swabbed my cervix with antiseptic, then because my cervix was in the way she had to clamp it and hold it down while she inserted the IUD which was slightly uncomfortable but not really painful. Then she cut the strings and told me how to check it each week to make sure it was still in place. I had some cramping for a day or so and I started bleeding the next day for about a week, other than that it has been hassle free and very comfortable. I highly recommend it.

hi there, i had a mirena put in 5 weeks ago, this is my second one, i had one about 5 years ago and loved it, no worries about remembering to take tablets, and my periods lasted a day if that! I'm currently bfing, you must usea condom for the first 2 weeks following insertion, you will be checked at 6 weeks post insertion and again every year to check it is still positioned right but otherwise you can just get on with your life and totally forget about it. Good luck. xx
