I just got over a head cold (I'm 14 weeks) and my doctor said to use Afrin nose spray, ONLY as directed. I have never used nose spray BUT OMG!! it was a life saver! I actually got sleep b/c I could breath thru my nose. I took sudafed in the daytime and benadryl at night. Hope this helps!!

Hi,Poor u!
Your immune system is lowered slightly during pregnancy in order to stop your body rejecting your unborn baby. This means that you are more vulnerable to viral infections, such as coughs, colds and flu! I know i have had one its awful!
If you need to take painkillers, it's safe to take the recommended dose of paracetamol.
Vapour rubs, such as Vicks, and non-medicated cough lozenges are both safe.
Good Luck! If its hayfever you have go speak to doctot he will prescribe you some tablets that are safe!
Take care!

The slightly less DIY version of Holly28's suggestion is to get a saline spray (I'd recommend Simply Saline brand, after having tried several different ones), and use it to irrigate your sinuses. (stand over the sink, because it's pretty gross) Like Holly said, saline (saltwater) works really well to clear out infections. I used my saline spray a few weeks back to help clear out this horrible cold I was dealing with. Other than that, Tylenol for aches and pains, be sure to use a cool mist humidifier if you're not already, and run your shower and breathe in the steam to help clear everything out. Feel better soon mama!

I suggest everything everyone else has already suggested. I also found that for me, one of the few things that helped was (yes I know how gross this is but bear with me) mixing a teaspoon of salt in a glass of water and snorting it in. The, blowing until there was nothing left to blow.It was the only thing that could clear my sinuses and actually stopped an infection that was beginning to develop.

If you want to try something besides meds you can take a warm shower and breathe in that steam and that will help losen it up and sleep propped up on a pillow where it can drain.
Cold Symptoms and Hay Fever
If you have high blood pressure, talk to your doctor first
They really prefer you to be out of your first trimester, call your doctor and ask them about these listed below which are considered safe after your first trimester, see what else you can do if they don't want you to use this.
Chlor-Trimeton (antihistamine)
Sudafed (decongestant)
Actifed (antihistamine and decongestant)

I wouldn't take anything either...maybe tylenol, but that's it. Never heard about the vapor rub on the feet thing. Hope it works and you feel better soon :)

Use a humidifier; saline drops; and rub Vicks vapor rub on the bottom of your feet and put socks on; I do not suggest taking any kind of meds during the 1st trimester.
