Is it ok to give my 6 month old pureed strawberries - i see that the seeds are still there after pureeing them.... but is it safe enough? i was so used to using jars and im trying to do some fruit etc myself. thanks

mommy-of-3 - 77 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Actually I don't think I would, there has been a link between children and strawberries causing allergies. When I was little I ate strawberries and broke out in hives, if I eat them now it's no problem. I would just wait a little longer...

Mommyof2boys - 77 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) This is a very interesting website I found about foods and when to give them, here is the info on berries: Seed fruits can occasionally cause an allergic reaction in children. Wait until your baby is six months before giving them. Allergic reactions to these types of fruit and vegetables are usually mild, and often just affect the mouth, causing some itching or a rash where the food touches the lips and mouth. This is called oral allergy syndrome. Here is the website if you would like to see a list of alll the foods and when to try them at what age. Good luck! www.babycenter.in/baby/startingsolids/feedbabywhatwhen/ - 43k

athome - 77 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) No ideally Strawberry is a common allergy stimulant try to aviod it until at least 12 months, 2 years if either parent has allergies to anything including hayfever.

sarahann - 77 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I'm not sure about the seeds themselves, but I know too that you are not meant to give a baby strawberries as they are a high risk food for allergies. I know they make commercial baby foods with strawberry juice in them, so maybe the allergens could be in the seeds. If you didn't want to give the seeds maybe try cereal with real strawberry juice.

Holly28 - 77 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Strawberries are one of the foods that you should NOT feed a baby. They are a high allergy food. You need to wait until your little one is older before exposing them to such things

monica9 - 77 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) shouldnt have berries until they are atleast 2 years old!

leanie093 - 77 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) NO strawberries til baby hits a year old is the safe rule to play it by.

shootinstarzzz - 77 days ago Rating: 5 (1 votes) The no berries till after age 1 or I think it might be age 2 is a new rule, when my other two were babies I gave them berries and I did not know know this new rule and gave my baby all the gerber berry baby foods and then told my doctor after a few of the other moms said it was a no no to give them berries, my son's doctor said as long as he did ok with them and you have no family history of being allergic to berries then it was fine. If you have already fed her the jarred baby food strawberries then she should be ok with the homemade baby food and will prob like the tatse better and give you a "you been holding out on me" look after tasting it. I would not worry too much about the seeds, they are small and if you do notice baby having problems with it then you could strain the seeds out of the pureed baby food before giving it to her, what you can also do if ur bbay is moving thier mouth while they are chewing you can start leaving small, very very small chucks in the food, like how the stage 3 baby food texture is and see how she does with that. my son at 6 months old was trying to chew and did great with the lumpy texture of the food and that's about the time he started trying different table foods, now at almost a year old he wont eat baby food and I just dice up pieces of strawberries and other fruits that he eats.

Baby3OnWay - 77 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I hear that you should hold off on the REAL strawberries for awhile for babies due to allergies, as well as honey, milk products... I would talk with your Dr before introducing anything more... I too make my own baby food but stayed away from these foods until about a year or until my Dr gives me the go ahead

skittles0607 - 77 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I hear that many people are allergic to the seeds in strawberries. If you do try it, start off with a small amount and then monitor the baby for any reaction.

brandi j. - 77 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Strawberries are considered a "highly allergenic" food, so if your family has known food allergies it would be best to hold off. Since there isn't a huge risk of my baby being allergic due to family history, I usually give my babies stawberries before they are a year, but I usually wait until around 9-10 months, b/c acidic foods like strawberries and oranges are best to hold off on for a little longer. When I do introduce it, I just treat it as I do when they are starting any other kind of new food, I watch them close for reactions and do not introduce any other new foods at the same time. Don't worry about the strawberry seeds, they are very small, pureeing them yourself would be ideal (I do this w/ fruit and veggies for my babies).
