Is it alright to go to the tanning bed while you are pregnant? I am 35 1/2 weeks pregnant. I have heard many different things about tanning beds. Most reports I have read says that nothing has proven that it can harm you. My mother in law also tanned through all 3 of her successful pregnancies? Should I tan?

madformilton - 77 days ago Rating: 1 (1 votes) any dr will say tanning is bad no matter what! i have laid out by the pool, but you do have to watch getting too hot...I usually end up swimming instead. if you prop yourself up you don't have to worry about being on your back.

kiesha0309 - 78 days ago Rating: 5 (1 votes) I was actually advised to tan due to my eczema. Pre-pregnancy I was taking a steroid called elocon and I am no longer allowed to take it, so to provide me with some sort of relief I tan once a week and did so in my last pregnancy. Granted this is under a doctors supervision and for medical reasons. I wouldn't do this for aesthetic reasons. You look beautiful girl so sport your pregnancy glow and if you really cant stand your color, there are many lotions that will gradually self tan your skin..Clarins, Jergens etc. Good Luck and Congrats!!

skittles0607 - 78 days ago Rating: 2 (1 votes) There isnt anything saying that is harmful for the baby but laying on your back is not good for the baby. Also getting overheated isnt good.. I had a tanning subscription before I found out I was preggo and as soon as I did find out I quit going. Just in case there is something that studies have not found..

RandiLee - 78 days ago Rating: 1 (1 votes) No, defintely not safe,,,It's actually illegal where I live.

JennSever - 79 days ago Rating: 3 (1 votes) this only thing i would worry about is getting overheated. other than that you should be ok. my quest. is the baby is going to be here shortly - could you wait just to be on the safer side?

Debra - 79 days ago Rating: 1 (1 votes) I agree. Its not good for you or your baby. If you at all start to feel too warm, then your baby is way too hot. The UV rays are horrible for you as well- Its much safer to get a good bottle of spray-on- but then again, you should also be concerned about the chemicals that you might be inhaling and putting on your skin. Remember that while the look of tanning might be cool now- when women start getting to the end of their 20's- u can tell who are the ones that have been getting too much sun as they often resemble 30 year old handbags. If tan=youth, then you don't want to look old when you're only 30. Keep that in mind as the sun will age your skin about 10-20 years and chemical peels and plastic surgery are not only painful but expensive. You can never get your youth back. Moisturize your skin and put on a little bronzer- thats my motto and Ive had people tell me I look 20 and i'm 30.

LMO - 79 days ago Rating: 1 (1 votes) tanning beds arent safe but you can get a spray tan

uhmanduh - 79 days ago Rating: 1 (1 votes) it's not safe. its too hot for the baby and it could die. thats what my doc said. even if you were to lay out by a pool its still not safe.

klasnaya - 79 days ago Rating: 3.5 (2 votes) I wouldnt go...The rays are harmful. It was on the news not long ago that the rays in tanning bed is fake and produce more harmful rays than the sun!!! plus its hot and it might be too much for baby anyways...

brandi j. - 79 days ago Rating: 3.5 (2 votes) No, tanning beds are not safe, they can cause you to overheat which is harmful for your baby. However, the spray tanning is safe, you could do this until your sweet little baby is born.

asutori - 79 days ago Rating: 5 (2 votes) I don't believe that there is any true scientific evidence that tanning is a no-no during pregnancy, however, many of the concerns seem to be more for those in their 1st trimester while the baby is still forming. The largest risk would be the overheating factor as it can lead to spinal malformations in the baby. UV rays have also been studied to break down folic acid in your body, which is important in preventing neural tube defects like Spinal Bifida. I've also read that pregnant women can also have much more sensitive skin thus causing hives or rashes when in the sun or when hit by UV rays, so perhaps that is something you would worry about more at this stage. And just as my personal opinion, I would be iffy on using self tanners only because we can never know what chemicals they make them with and what could possibly seep into your skin. So if anything, it's not the darkening of the skin that's harmful to baby (although dermatologists would argue it's just bad for your skin in general), it's just the methods of getting there that could be harmful. I'm sure you look glowing in any case, so perhaps another month of waiting to be tanned isn't such a big deal :)

Melanie07 - 79 days ago Rating: 3 (2 votes) No it is not safe. Between the heat and the uv lights, it is not safe. You only have a few more weeks. Just wait a little longer.

denee85 - 79 days ago Rating: 4.5 (2 votes) From everything I've heard,it's NOT a good idea..Since laying under the UV lights isn't good for you to begin with it isn't anything I'd think you'd want your baby exposed to either..Also,it can raise your enire body tempature which is NOT good during pregnancy....Ask your doctor before attempting please. Pale is in when you're expecting..Or try a tinted lotion.
