Some Doctor's like to wait till you are past the m/c point. My doctor wouldnt see me until I was 8 weeks. I had my first ultrasound at 9 weeks. Its all up to your Dr. I would hate to wait that long because you can't hear the heartbeat for another few weeks. At least with ultrasounds you can at least see it. Good Luck

I'm 13 weeks and still no scan! My friends who had babies recently had scan at 18-20 weeks! At least they can tell the sex at the that stage. I'm dying to know!

Most doctors don't give one until 19 weeks ish and then if baby is healthy that is the only one. If tbey have reason to worry then they will send you for more. They thought mine was ectopic so that is the only reason I had a 9 week ultrasound. Otherwise it would have only been my 19 week one

because your baby is not developed enough and he wants the baby to get bigger and develop more functioning organs and check the sex all at once....and the ultrasound tells you exactly how old your fetus is. So that's why...you got about 6-8 weeks before your ultrasound hang tight and dont rush it.

im form new zealand, and we generally have our scans at around 8 to 12 weeks, the reason your dr is probabbly waiting it that you are sure of your dates so there is no real need to, at 10 weeks on you will be able to see alot more on the scan i think at around 6 weeks an ultrasound can pick up a heart beat, so perhaps if you explain to him you would like it early im sure he will have no problems in doing so, he is by the sounds of it doing everything by the book so there is really nothing at all to worry about :)

im from the uk so i dont know if this aplys to where you are but we get one between 8-12 weeks because thats the best time to actually see the baby and not the sac..( its better for determining a due date) and then we get one at 17-22 weeks for the detailed scan where you hopefully find out the sex and any abnormalities but after that we only get one if there are concerms but from where i am if its the same for you.. anytime now you could go in for the early scan.. you can always ring you doctor and ask them dont wait around for a letter it gets right on your nerves! -believe me !

I was at 20 weeks before my ultrasound. They said that they really can't see much before then anyway, but I was confused bc last time, they sent me for one right away.
I hope that the time goes by quickly for you.

i am not getting my ultra sounds till i am 17wks and 5 days along. According to my doc inless something is wrong there is no need to do an ultra sound untill then cause that is when you can tell the sex of the baby.

I didn't have my u/s until 20 weeks! I was so worried because I didn't have that confirmation that things were ok early on.... BUT In lots of places, you don't get early ultrasounds unless there are complications. Don't worry. The time will pass and then you'll get to see the baby... it'll be worth the wait, but not worth worrying about...

I'm 7 weeks, I had a few by this time with my last pregnancy but I was having problems and ended up having a m/c. I haven't even been to the ob/gyn yet this time. My first appointment is this coming Friday but thats just to talk and gather medical and pregnancy history with the nurse. My first visit with the actual Dr. is scheduled for the first part of June and I will be 10 weeks. Its hard waiting this long...

usually the doctor doesnt give u/s until 12 weeks unless they thought something was wrong. some just do it early just because but most don't. If you can't hold off another 2 weeks just tell them you want it next week (week 11) b/c you are going to be away week 12. make something up, it might work!!

It really depends ont he Dr. Most wait until the end of the first trimester. I just have a really great Dr who did one at 9 weeks and then did another just for kicks at 11 weeks--she didn't bill me for either, but I realize she is the exception to the rule.

Some doctors, my doctor included, will wait until week 20 to do the first u/s. I will be getting an early u/s this time, only b/c I am still nursing my 14 mo. old and have not had a cycle since she was born, so my doctor can not calculate a "expected due date", but that is the only reason. However, w/ my 1st and 2nd babies, I saw 2 different doctors and both of them scheduled me for an u/s for as soon as I could get an appointment. Every doctor is different, but it is becoming more and more common for doctors to wait until week 20 unless there they have a concern before then.
