Hi, I would like to know, is it safe to go on a bike ride when you are 8 months pregnant or does it cause early labour?

Claudiap - 109 days ago Thank you all for your reply, I appreciate it, I was talking about a Motor Bike, I was on it on Sunday night so I could get home but I was the passenger, but I have not been on it again. I will be carefull, it was more of a once off for now, like I have told my man I rather wait until Lara is born before getting onto the bike. I just wanted to know if does bring early labour if I had to sit on the motor bike. My bump is not that big either, its my 1st baby so I'm very small. But thank you all again :)

Baby3OnWay - 109 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I think the odds of falling and the level of activity for you at this point is too much!! I know I wouldn't be able to get on a bike even if i tried!!

Mommyof2boys - 109 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I would use a stationary bike for now just to be safe, of course you could ride and it wouldn't bring on any early labor but there's the risk of you falling.

Melanie07 - 109 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) It is not safe because of the chance of falling. My doc told me not to. Your equilibrium is off not to mention your weight is shifted. You can very easily loose balance and fall.

2xmom - 109 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I asked my doc the same question when I was preggo. She didn't advise it. Your balance is off, also she worried about falling, if you would hit your stomach on the bike. I actually tried biking before I asked her, I don't recommend it. It's amazing how you use your abs to get some speed up a hill, and when you're that big - you have no ab muscles to use! It was hard.

shootinstarzzz - 109 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Have you asked ur doctor? I mean I dont know how big ur bump is or how ur balance is, personally I would be scared to go bike riding, my balance was awful when i was preggo and I was akward and clumbsy and if you fall on ur belly you might harm the baby. Maybe you could find another form of exercise till after you have the baby then go bike riding to lose ur baby weight?? Maybe if ur balance is ok and ur doctor ok's it you could ride one of those indoor exercise bikes? anytime with any exercise or if ur in any doubt about anything ask ur doctor, even if you think well it prob is dangerous but maybe some other preggo ladies ride bikes so I will ask anyways it's always better to check with ur doctor cuz while some of us may be big and clumbsy being preggo ( that was me,I was soo clumbsy) others are more athelitc and prob rode bikes daily and are good at it so thier doctor may feel it's ok for them, we all are different. :) . . 0

charmane122 - 109 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Hi mommy, please let's use our smarts. That is not a good idea. Bikes are dangerous regardless of who is driving it.

jessicadarling - 109 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) My doctor told me that while physical activity is great while pregnant she says you must really pick and choose the activities because some women who bike ride, horse back ride, roller blade or skate will injure themselves. She also says that if anything happens to the baby in the process these women take on extreme feelings of guilt. She said it is best to avoid potentially dangerous activities while pregnant.

EniChan - 109 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) i think abelsmamita is right.theres a high risk u might fall. riding bikes is already a dangerous thing without bein pegnant.

abelsmamita - 109 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I don't think it can cause early labor, but it really isn't very safe. Becasue at 8 months your baby and you have grown A LOT, your center of gravity has been thrown off and that can even make walking difficult let alone riding a bike. And if you were to fall you can't brace yourself like if you were'nt pregnant. I would try to find an alternative to bike riding, even a light hike sounds safer...Good Luck!:)Ask your doc too..
