I just got a call from my nurse that my pap smear they did last week at my 6 week post partum checkup came back abnormal. I have never had an abnormal pap before and now I am nervous. I googled it and it seems to be pretty common after giving birth. I have to go back next month and get a coloscopy so they can look at the abnormal cells closer. Anyone else experience abnormal pap after giving birth?? How did it turn out?!

I have had an abnormal pap and had that followed up by a colposcopy. The colposcopy was a little uncomfortable (little spotting afterward) but not the end of the world. I was so stressed out of my mind about the results, but they came back negative. I just had to follow up with paps every 6 months for 2 years to make sure everything was ok. Thankfully, I've not had another abnormal pap since. Good luck to you and try not to stress too much...abnormal paps are VERY common.

I have had abnormal paps and colposcopy's for the last 2 years. I have another one at the end of this month. I usually have to have a biopsy done when I have the colposcopy also...neither one really hurt, just a little uncomfortable. Hope everything goes ok for you :)

A lot of times it os HPV which can lay dormant for a long time. Although sometimes it is a fluke... The coloscopys are uncomfortable and you may spot a little. I have been through them 100 times and mine did turn out to be cervical cancer cells this was only because it runs in my family so dont be scared! After you get the coloscopy everything wil prob be fine

I've had an abnormal pap before-not after birth though. Lots of things can cause it to happen. Usually its nothing to worry about. I had to have a colposcopy as well, not to make you nervous but it was very painful for me. They just need to get the cells and send them out to see exactly why they are abnormal. Then usually you have to go in for a pap more often after that (every 3 months???) until you have about 3 consecutive normal ones again. I wouldn't worry too much either-good luck!

I have had abnormal paps, colonoscopys and laser surgery to remove abnormal cells (11 years ago). I was always told that cervical cancer is very slow growing and can almost always be discovered and successfully treated early on if you go for your paps as recommended. I have had normal paps for years, now. Also, abnormal paps can be sign of infection, too, not just pre-cancerous cells... I wouldn't worry too much.
