has anyone ever used a sleeping positioner on their baby. The velcro (I`m guessing) type which holds baby in place so they cant roll over while asleep. I am wondering if I should look at getting one and would like to know if anyone has used one and are they worth it for piece of mind as well as providing a good sleep for the baby. Also what about those velco type snuggle wraps for sleeping? Any thoughts would be appreciated, thanks

corrin - 72 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I have the positioner thingy...velcros in the middle with 2 larger parts on the outside...i like it for my baby...if he doesnt sleep in it he wiggles all over the place..sometimes right up against the bumper...but when hes in it he stays in one spot.....Hope this helps!

Debra - 73 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I used the "Swaddle ME" velcro wraps for 10 weeks, 8 weeks while sleeping. HE loved to be swaddled and they made my life so much easier. Diaper changes in the middle of the night were a breeze. They come in Microfleece (colder climates) and organic cotton. They even can go into the car seat or stroller and still allow baby to be buckeled up! I used the positioner while he had a cold. He slept on his side for 8 weeks until he could safely sleep on his stomach. I know its not recommended but he was only sleeping for an hour or so at a time on his back and would wake. He was cranky and within a week of tummy sleeping he was sleeping through the night. I did speak with my doctor before starting to tummy sleep my baby. Now he positions himself and i frequently find him on his tummy and or side. (He sleeps how my husband and I like to sleep). Now my baby sleeps in a sleep sack. He loves being warm and the sack helps him to not get tangled in blankets. The swaddle me was very safe for my son when he was newborn as well- he stayed in it as we positioned him in it and it stayed off his head and neck. Usually we kept one arm positioned out of the swaddle me and this kept it in place. When you back sleep you do want to change their position every few hours as you change your position so you avoid developing a flat spot. The positioner did keep him propped on his side. You can also use flannels to do this, but the positioner was more effective.

Mommyof2boys - 73 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I used mine the first couple of months that way I could prop him on his side's and not have him on his back all of the time.

athome - 73 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Yes I brought one with my first bub, To be honest it became one of those useless things that lived in the cupboard. Great in theory but bubs cant roll over anyway for the first few months and then they just wake up constantly and get annoyed by it so I gave up on it very quickly.

stephandisaac - 73 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I had both the positioner and the swaddle me blanket. He started scooting down off the positioner by the end of his 1st week home. I don't reccomend them, but it's up to you. I loved the swaddle me blanket though. I used it for almost 2 months. It really did help him sleep and it made me feel like he was snug and secure. Hope I helped :)

christina1984 - 73 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) i think there are conflicted reports as to whether or not it can contribute to sids. also it really wont help for swaddling. plus i feel that if something happens where the baby starts suffercating on it or if the baby is trying to turn itself cuz its chocking

asutori - 73 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) There has been much controversy with those lately where many reports state that they can actually be more suffocating to a child and increase the chances of SIDS. If your infant likes to be swaddled, it's really quite hard for them to roll around and flip over anyway. The less clutter and fluff you have in the crib or sleeping area, the better! I would agree with Melanie07 as well in using a sleep sack, another method in reducing the extra stuff around them. Here is a quote from Consumer Reports for you regarding sleep positioners: "The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) advises parents and caregivers to remove all "pillow-like soft products" from cribs, while the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) advises that "soft objects, such as pillows, quilts, comforters, sheepskins, stuffed toys, and other gas-trapping objects should be kept out of an infant's sleeping environment." More specifically, the AAP advises that "Although various devices have been developed to maintain sleep position or to reduce the risk of rebreathing, such devices are not recommended, because none have been tested sufficiently to show efficacy or safety.... "Our advice is to keep the crib bare," says R. David Pittle, Consumers Union's former senior vice president for technical policy. "The only thing that should be in a crib is a sheet, a mattress, a child, and a blanket."" Hope that helps! Good luck!

Melanie07 - 74 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) The sleep positioner never worked for my kids. Also they never liked to be wrapped up. I did find the blanket sleep sacks very useful. My youngest hated blankets. With the sleep sack, she had a blanket on without having and actual blanket. I also had one of those velcro snuggle wraps. I never used it.
