my daughter is 6 months old and as of right now i feed her cereal 2 or 3 times a week and just started her on baby 1st food..... what do you or did you feed your six month old?

Mommy2twogreatkids - 114 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) If you start any kind of solids even cereal the baby needs that everyday. It would be like giving you milk everyday and 2 to 3 days a week giving you cereal. Other than that veggies are best to satrt with so they don' t only want sweet foods like fruit. Also, our doctor advised us not to do meats until 11 months.

It is cheaper, although it is more work. If you want to go that route, here is a great website to get you started: http://www.wholesomebabyfood.com

They say to hold off on fruits and orange veggies for a bit as they are sweet and would rather have them then any other! I did the same with my daughter! Best of luck and our babies are growing WAY TOO FAST!! haha

ibudoris - 116 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I followed a book called Super Baby Foods with both my kids, and it was great! It has ideas for foods that are the friendliest to introduce each month as your baby develops, and the plan is set up to develop your child's taste buds so they like veggies as well as fruits. I now have an almost 3yr old who likes nearly all veggies, but loves salad and asparagus, and a 1 1/2yr old who loves avocado. It's called "Super Baby Food" by Ruth Yaron, and you can find it pretty cheap on e-bay usually. Good luck!

leanie093 - 116 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) by 6 months i was giving my son 2nd foods, because of the quantity (he was eating more) & the more variety of fruits, veggies and dinners. and he gets cereal for breakfast & i put some in his bottle of milk for bedtime to keep his tummy nice and full. he likes the turkey and chicken dinners too. Once he started crawling i gave him the gerber finger foods and he LOVES those things. he knows how to grab it between his thumb & forefinger and feed himself. Now at 9 months old he's on 3rd stage eating more lumpier textures so he can learn to mash and chew food with his teeth. Your daughter will give you signs when she needs more food at one sitting. she's getting bigger now, so mix it up. Introduce as many fruits and veggies so she gets a variety of nutrients along with her formula or breastmilk. good luck

Debra - 116 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) do you mean to say you feed her 2-3 per week or per day? you should be feeding 4-8 tbsp of cereal a day at this time- so divide it to 4 tbsp a feeding. I just started feeding my son last week monday and its already made a difference to his level of happiness, alertness and napping schedule. I've also given him a few bits of mashed banannas, apricots and green peas- all of which he likes- but more when its mixed with a bit of breastmilk and strained. Not a big fan of lumps or textures yet. I'm trying to feed him stuff we eat- so i just cooked a some peas and strained them myself. I got a feeding bag/handle from a kids store- which allows you to put bannanas or anything in the mesh bag and he can hold the handle and mush it out. So far he likes frozen peas that way too- which is also good for teething. Its also gone on the floor a couple times too. Some say to start with veggies like yams and peas and then add sweeter veggies. Kids at this age don't really have a sweet tooth- but breastmilk is pretty sweet and I find my son is used to that and likes sweeter better. Had a few funny faces at banannas and apricots which are actually a bit tart in their natural form (not already prepared in jar). Most jar food is also good- just watch salt/sugar content. I was told to avoid corn products, and wheat products, oats until he's a bit older (oats etc contain gluten which can lead to celiac disease if introduced too early). ALso avoid high sugar/ salty foods, choking foods like grapes, nuts, egg whites (intro just 2-3 days before MMR shot due as this vaccine containes eggs- so around 1st b-day). I plan on continuing to introduce a new fruit or veggie every 3 days or so. Today will be apples, then we go to yams, then pears. You can also try calling your public health nurse- i got the best answers from them. I also got some pamphlets on what to feed. Continue offering breast milk or formula too- I nurse him either before or after each feeding.

Julianna - 116 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I fed my six month old anything he would eat. As long as it doesn't upsed your child's tummy it should be okay. I did start on vegetables first so he didn't get a taste for the sweet fruits and not want the veggies, but he's been an amazing eater. He has a mouth full of teeth now, at nine months, and he gets quite a bit of table food. We are in the process of beginning to wean him off the baby stuff. Hope this helps
