I think alot of it depends on when your baby is ready to eat food from a spoon and not push it out of ther mouth. Our dr. said 6 months for most but as early as 4 months some start cereal. So just talkto your doctor and listen to your baby.

I have been told 6 months old because of food allergies. Hailey's Dr. said as early as 4 months if there is no history of food allergies in the family. I am going to wait until she is 6 months old to be on the safe side.

The current recommended age to start solids in Australia is 6 months. They used to say 4-6 but have changed it. I think its due to so many food allergies emerging...

I usually start my babies on cereal at 4-5 months, and other foods at 6 months. I didn't start my 2nd child on solids until he was 8 months though, b/c he was not interested, he didn't eat alot of it until I weaned him at 16 months old, b/c he was satisfied w/ breastmilk. I think that your baby will let you know when he/she is ready and if they need alot of solids or just the occasional extra.

B's pediatrician told me that he usually doesn't recommend solids until 6 months. but with her, we had big problems with constipation, so at 4 months he told me to start introducing her to the high fiber fruits and cereals... prunes apricots and pears... i think we went with oat cereal cause rice can constipate...

well - as me and my children suffer from allergies, i didn't start them on solids until @ 6 months. but if your baby is showing signs of interest at 3-4 months i would start with baby cereal mixed with brst milk/formula. stay away from cow's milk, wheat, corn or egg products as they are known allergens. if you want to know more pls write me and i can tell you about experiences..jenn
