Any other moms out there riding? I`m almost 18 weeks and ride my horse nearly daily. No jumping or anyting crazy, mostly trail riding. My dr. is concerned about the possibility of a fall and my extended family wants me to quit riding (my husband supports my riding). Anyway, wondering if any other girls are still riding?? I rode into my 6 month with my other pregnancies.
Thanks!

When I was preganant with my daughter my husband refused to help me get up on Sunny to ride him. I had to have help because he was 17 hands high but my dr. also warned against riding. Now that I am pregnant again it is something I have had to get used to again. Especially with TWINS!!!! Groom him and lead him around and still love him but I would suggest not riding until after hte baby is born.

I wouldn't do it but I mean I don't ride like you do. Only you can be the best judge of it and your Dr... if you did it before and dare the risk then... to each their own!

i read a book that said riding is one of those 'unsafe' sports...you know yourself and your horse best. do what you are comfortable with and dont say 'if only' if something happens. you weigh your risk and take any consequence.
happy pregnancy!

i would keep riding. Aslong as you are cautious when doing it. this summer I will probaly go riding. I am only 11 weks right now. but I mean as long as you are not jumping or running. I dont think the bouncing would be to go for oyu.. Just be careful and enjoy yourself..

I understand u love horse riding coz I used to love horses too. but i think it can be quite dangerous to keep riding. just imagine things like ur horse gets scared of something and runs off with u or makes u fall off. u would probably feel guilty if something happened to ur child.
not bein able to ride doesnt mean u have to stay away completely fom the horses. you could still go to the stable and spend time with them, feed them or pat them.

People fall down the stairs when pregnant, trip up in shops, receive shocking news or are beaten by their hubbies/partners. You are minimising risk by not jumping or doing "anything crazy" and sticking with your own known horse. Perhaps stay where your horse and the surroundings are familar and fairly predictable and the ground is good will further well minimise risk. Avoid a sitting trot too? Otherwise I can't see that giving up great exercise altogether that makes you feel so good physically and emotionally and that will knock on positively to the baby inside is a better idea alltold.

My cousin was horse-back riding until she went into labor- she was dilating up to 4 cm though and only rode her horse again at the end of her pregnancies to initiate labor. And when i say horse riding, i mean trotting around in her stable grounds. I wouldn't ride a horse- just b/c they are so unpredictable. Christopher Reeve's was a prime example of that unpredictability. Trail riding would be dangerous b/c of the ground. What if the horse clipped a rock or stumbled on some uneven terrain? I think it would be the same as if you were taking other unnecessary risks like drinking, baking in tanning beds or eating sushi. Why not just hold off for a couple months and be safe? Isn't your kid worth it?

I wouldnt be riding. horses can always do something unpredictable. I rode horses when I was young and more than once I came off and landed on my front. It is awesome riding but would you be able to forgive yourself if something terrible happened? for the risk factor I would stop.
