I never had an amnio done..i refused because the chances of miscarriage are very high..and like everyone else is saying 2% compared to 98% of the baby being fine...i personally wouldnt risk it but whatever you choose i wish the best for you!

I would not get the amnio. It is dangerous. It can cause miscarriage. I was 36 when i had my third baby. They tried to get me to do the amnio. I told them I am keeping the baby either way. I don't need to worry about any problems. I knew the risks of having amnio. I now have a very healthy happy little girl.

well since you are so young the chances of your baby having down syndrome is higher in young teens and in women over 35 so maybe that's why your baby has a 2% chance of having down syndrome but don't worry to much because it's only 2% and the other 98% tells you your baby might not have it...just pray.

Hiya. I agree with the other answers. 2% isn't very high at all. And the blood tests have very VERY high false positives. I know it's hard not to worry. When I was preg, my blood came back as a 1 in 65 chance of downs. I chose to do the amnio. If you do chose to do it, it honestly doesn't hurt. They have the ultrasound monitor right beside you and you can focus on looking at the baby instead of what the doctor is doing. After I had mine I was up and back at work later that day with no cramping or anything. A couple weeks later I got my results and they were a definate negative for any abnormalities. Take care, I'm sure you'll make the right decision for you!

somtimes those tests do nothing but cause needless worry. my sister was told with her third pregnancy that he WAS going to have downs syndrome. in fact, the same day my sister told me dad that my husband asked my dad for my hand in marriage! talk about one extreme to another. i am happy to say my sisters baby boy was born perfectly healthy! you just dont know until the baby is actually born. good luck to you and remember as the others have said you have a much better chance of having a healthy baby.

i wouldnt get the amnio either. its just going to cause you more unnessesary stress. 2% isnt a high chance. you should be fine.

Like mrscolegrove, I didn't bother with that test because if anything was 'wrong', I'd still be having my baby. Try not to stress, 2% is a very small chance. As far as pain, I haven't had an amnio, but I hear that they're pretty painless (however, they aren't entirely safe for baby. You really do not *have* to get every test they recommend, especially as this one is most likely causing you needless worry). And perhaps most importantly, you certainly don't have to get an abortion if anything is wrong. Taking tests, having the baby, it is all your choice. Be brave, and try to be calm!

dont stress too much its only 2 % and the test shouldnt hurt because they make the area numb. if anything is wrong it doesnt mean u have to have an abortion unless thats what u choose. good luck to u, i was 20 when i got pregnant the 1st time and i was very scared. at 15 u must be a brave girl. let me know how the test goes

Just know that having a baby is a lot of work. I'm 21 and also very excited to have a baby, but I also graduated high school. Although I never went to college, now is a good time in my life to be pregnant. I don't know your situation, or what your parents say, but I know that if I would have gotten pregnant when I was 15, I would have been scared and very worried about my future. Just make sure you make the choices that will be good for you, not only now, but in the long run too. And also make good choices for your baby. If you need someone to talk to, send me a message. I have my opinions but I don't mean to tell anyone what to do. It's their life, not mine, and all I can do is try to help when people want it. Hope to hear from you soon
Emily
P.S. I'm also very worried about how many things can go wrong. I pray every day for one thing, and that is for a healthy baby.

They freeze your belly so it doesn't hurt to get it done. Just think positive... you have a 98% chance of this NOT being a downs baby. So, the chances are way way way greater that the baby is not. Good luck! I am sure everything will work out fine.
