my son is already 9 months old (went to 9month check up already) and he's only had 9 immunization shots & doc said for his 1 year visit he's only getting 1 more shot. I don't think thats bad at all & he's never had any side effects. It's all in who you choose as the pediatrician really.

i have opted to space mine out, do the single vials, and to wait until they are of an age where their immunity is stronger. I also never go with any that have live viruses. I work closely with peditrician in regards to the shots. She is very understanding of my concerns and the fact that i have one son with vaccine injuries. I think the best thing you can do is find a dr that is understanding and willing to work with you, not to mention take the time to explain it all to you, not just hand you a pamphlet. There are a couple i still "opt out" with, they are just not really worth the risk in my eyes and honestly what they are preventing...well is treatable and is not life threatening. Im not gonna list here which ones or alot more about my strong feelings about vaccines, because well...its just opening a can of worms for a bunch of unfriendly replies to my vip...if you know what i mean...lol. Anyhow good luck, and good for you for getting more info. It is one of those first decisions that you have to make as a parent, no manual given...lol.

I don't know the technical name, but I know there is a chicken pox vaccine now~ don't know how 'new' it is, but there weren't shots being given for it when I was a kid (I am 25 now)

This was a good question. I did some research online. I know the important ones are Pertussis, Diptheria, Tetanus, Salk Polio. I feel the same way, there is no way i'm giving my child 22 shots. Its not like since we had shots any big outbreak has occured.

Vaccinations are better than getting thei llnesses, many have complications that can be life threatening. So I would go with your health departments plan, if you really do not want to give all the vaccines talk to your doctor about it, he can advise you which you could omit, but really advancement in the medical field has given us these vaccinations and change is good!

I unfortunately cannot give you a direct answer but another option for you to find out what is needed and what isn't could be to contact a Homeopathic doctor as many of them still believe in vaccinations, but only the basics and not all these extra new ones that could be deemed "unnecessary". Good luck! I hope you find the info because I too have concerns about this.

I have lived in two different states. In both of these state on one the east coast the other on the west we had no chose as to what shots we wanted and didn't want our kids to have. I know that the chicken pox shot is new and they give it to in two increments. My daughter had to get this before she could start school even though I told the nurse I didn't want her to have it. Some shot don't even take affect. I am not pron to Rubella even though I have had 4 different shots. You need to check with your doctor or vaccination clinic to find out what is required, especially when your child starts up school.
