induction Added: 1367 days ago. Added by: katznkt Section: General. Status: This question is Closed. (Questions will be closed after 10 days.)
My husband had to sign a waver at work stating that he wont request time off May 22-26 (Memorial Day weekend). If he does try to take time off during those days, they reserve the right to fire him. That being said, my due date is May 29, with ultrasounds showing her due the 26th. I have thought about asking the doctors to inudce me, but they wont consider it (I dont think) until I am 39 weeks which is on May 22. What should I do, just hope she doesnt come the 22-26?

I would say just hope she doesn't come. If this is your first the likley hood of going on these days is slim but definatley could happen. I hope he can make it hun, wish you the best!! (P.S. doesn't his work understand and know hes expecting?? You'd think they would have SOME relief for him if that were the case)

well according to the FMLA or the family leave act, contract or not he has the right in an emergency such as u giving birth to not be there. there is a website i just forget what it is with all the facts. look up Family LeaVE Act. they cant interfere with a medical leave or taking care of a sick family member or the birth of a new child (man or woman)

His boss is mean.. I would be looking for a new job if they told me I couldnt take time off for the baby.. Has he talked to them and explained that you are due the 29th.. Maybe if he explains they will let him get away with calling in if you go earlier.. Dont get induced unless you have to.. Good Luvk and I hope that baby stays in until the 26th..

If this is your first, don't fret, the baby will likely naturally come AFTER the 29th anyway. But don't be induced if you can avoid it, katznkt. That wouldn't be a GOOD solution anyway!

I didnt think the FMLA counted if you hadnt worked somewhere very long. He has only been with this company for 2 weeks. Plus, as stupid as it sound, in Texas, you can be fired for any reason at any time- they dont even have to give you a reason. They could fire him for asking to be with me in labor and just say he "wasnt up to par" and that would be that- no legal recourse. Stupid.

Isn't he protected under FMLA?????? His company could get in a lot of trouble. You need to check this out.

hope for the best- but does your husband have any compassion leave? or special options for family emergencies? most companies have this stipulated in agreements. Or can he call in sick for the day you actually go into labor? I wouldn't get induced unless you REALLY (medical reason) have to- as it is not an ideal way to go into labor. Most drugs increase your pain for contractions and put you on a slippery slope that can lead to increased risk for C/S. I would never get induced unless it were medically necessary.

I wouldn't worry about it too much, but talk with your Doctor and explain the situation, they are usually sympathetic. However if it is your first pregnancy I would expect to go over the due date too. I think you should first find out what your Doctor can do for you, it may sove your worries

I wouldn't ask for an induction unless it was medically necessary. I was induced, and while it wasn't painful (sure the contractions come faster- but I doubt it's any more painful)... I think a lot of complications can arise. I ended up spiking a fever, not being able to push because I was exhausted from being in the hospital (not being able to eat), and they ended up vacuum extracting her which led to a 4th degree tear! Everyone is different, but I just think the more natural it is, the better it is for both mom and child.

Don't get induced !!! That's the best advice I can give you, honestly it leads to a much more painful labour and usually results in Caesarian Section. Its just not worth doing. Having said that most people go over with their first so i would be inclined to let nature take its course if there is no medical reason to induce.

Well talk to your doctor. Mine induced me at 38 weeks, because I was going nuts and really didnt want to be pregnant anymore. That being said, it took an entire day for the whole induction process, and then labour and delivery so even if they induced you tomorrow, you are cutting it close...

The problem is that he is new on the job, and has only worked there two weeks, so they can fire him at any time for any reason because he is still on new employee probation, on top of the stupid waiver thing. Grrrrrrrr.

your husband should contact human resources as this is an exception to the "rule" - what a bizarre waiver. if you go into labor and they threaten to fire him - threaten right back to go to the media. i'm not kidding. you can't stop a man from spending a bit of time w/ his newborn child.

You don't think that if you went into labor, they would allow him to leave. That sounds like it would be an exception, but I don't know how his work operates..
