Have any of you in the US been working with a midwife? I did not realize it is such a common practice in other countries. I want to have a natural birth and I got tossed to an OB but now I am starting to research my other options. Can you tell me your experiences??

karenc - 138 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I had my baby in february and worked during my pregnancy with both an OB and a midwife -- my practice employs both and they work as teams. during my labor, I was attended by midwives. my OB was great, but I just felt that going w/ a midwife was right. the biggest difference I noticed is that the OB is focused on your baby while the midwife is focused on YOU and your baby. for example, my midwife asked me often about how I was holding up emotionally and also let me make the call about optional procedures a lot of the time; toward the end of my pregnancy, she asked if i'd like an internal exam and let me know they can be uncomfortable, so I chose to skip it. it was a really great experience to be able to work with both and if I have another baby, I plan to go the same route.
