Debra - 1353 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) just use a wash cloth to wash his face and hair. Rinse with it too. We all have wax in our ears which protects the ear canal from getting water in it. Don't use q-tips as it can plunge water further into the ear, damage the ear drum and remove the protective wax. We give showers to our boy every night and have done so since his birth. Never have gotten water in his ears. Its more a risk when swimming or if you fully immerse your child's head for a long period of time.

juliealisesmommy - 1353 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) yes lol!! just put your palm on his forhead to keep it out of his eyes, but bathe away! he'll be ok, and if ur reall worried about his ears, it wont hurt to put a tiny piece of cotton in his ears to block water

Julianna - 1353 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I say dump away. It will help your child NOT to be afraid of the water. Water in the ear won't cause ear infections. The infection is behind the ear drum and the water from a bath would be in front of the drum. My son puts his ears in the water all the time because he loves to lie down & kick (believe me, at the end of bathtime, I am just as wet as he is) You have posted a VERY good question, though!

christina1984 - 1353 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) the water getting in his ears is fine. do you have the infant cuetips?

monica9 - 1353 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) you can find ear plugs to put in his ears. they have putty that you can just gently mold and form to his ear. my sister uses it when my nephew goes swimming b/c he gets chronic ear infections and had tubes put in. i dont think you are overreacting!!

moms the word - 1354 days ago Rating: 4 (1 votes) If he doesn't like the water in his face when you rinse his hair, just be prepared to wipe it away quickly with a dry cloth. He will be fine, don't doubt yourself. It is important to remember that he doesn't know you are a first time mom, he is not judging you and you are not being too nervous. You are just being a mother who obviously loves her little boy very much. If he does get an ear infection, trust me, you didn't cause it. Babies get them all the time it is normal and treatable. As for the fear of water when he is older, just take him swimming early in his life like I did with my little girl and he will be fine. You are doing a great job and he is lucky to have a mommy who cares so much about him.

kater - 1354 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) ive never heard that water in a babys ears was bad for them, i mean why would they have infant swimming classes if it was harmful? id say the danger is-what i experienced with my daughter, is i didnt pour water on her head simply because she didnt like it, now she wont learn to swim at all and its still a nightmare to wash her hair and shes 5 years old

candace3 - 1354 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) You can always just wash his hair with a washcloth...

JennSever - 1354 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) well, the problem is that you need to make him comfortable in water..but if a child is going to get ear infections then they well regardless if you pour water over their heads or not. its how the tubing is formed deep inside. most children get ear infections while nursing/bottle time or when they are sick, as the tubes are lying in such a way that they can't drain properly. don't fear bath time..just have fun with it. not one of my kids had an ear infection and i have had 4

littlecavalier - 1354 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Definitely dump water over his head, as long as he's not laying on his side water shouldn't stay in his ears. They do make a cup that you press against their forehead and then poor which keeps the water out of their face. Definitely don't worry too much about getting it on his face unless it really upsets him. You are right on about helping to keep him from being afraid later.
