Well, as of now i am on a presumptive Tenn Care card, (given by the state because I am pregnant and without insurance) and I got referred to this really nice place that I didnt even expect would take state given insurance. Its an amazing doctors office with indoor waterfalls, and beverages sitting out for the kids and preggies. Wel, I am 15 weeks, and i started seeing my midwife about two weeks ago, and she refuses to do an ultrasound till another month or two, because she insists that due to her little chart that I am only 12 weeks pregnant. (my last period wasnt a period, but implantation bleeding, i was told by another doctor, who performed an ultrasound that puts me a 15 weeks now.) I saw her once, on our first visit she gave me a surprise pap, but after that she sceduled the next appt for over a month later?! is this normal? and she only saw me for a few mins. I just dont think im getting the care that normal pregnant women are getting these days, and i think it could be due to the fact that im on tenncare. or is this normal? sorry its justs frustrating cuz its my first and im so curious as to its health and growth, and im being told nothing .

I have the mercedes benz of health coverage and what you're getting sounds like what I got in the first trimester. I didn't even meet my dr the first two times. I met the NP and the ultrasound tech. My office does do a scan between 9-12 weeks but many offices don't do that. Like Karenc said, unless I show up with a list of questions to ask my Dr, I'm in and out in minutes. However she'll take as long as I need once I do start asking questions. I'm in my second trimester and I see her every 3 weeks or so.

I had both a midwife & ob while prego and what's going on w/ you sounds normal. in the beginning, your appts are spaced out a lot, usually 1 p/mo. in the 3rd trimester they usually increase to 1 every 2 wks and then finally every week. usually, if all seems well, the midwife or ob spends 10-15 minutes w/ you. if I didn't show up w/ a list of questions that came up, I was in & out.

I am from Canada and it is pretty much the same here. You get one ultrasound at 18-20 weeks. I had one at 13 weeks because I am over 35, so they check for Downs. We generally don't have midwives here. Everyone goes to a dr or ob. Mine also sees me once a month. They weigh me, check my bp, test my urine for sugar, then the dr comes in feels around a bit, listens to the hb then sends me home. In and out in 10 min or less. Take it as a good thing that they don't want to see you more often.

This is all normal. I had a pap at my first appt. and had my first and only ultrasound so far at 21 weeks. I understand how you feel, sometimes I also feel like other women get more ultrasounds or more attention. Maybe it just means that we are having very normal, healthy pregnancies and there is no reason to have these extra ultrasounds. Good luck!

As far as the length of time she is in the room with you, that sounds normal to me. I also live in Tn and was on TennCare with my first pregnancy. They only did one ultrasound the entire time I was pregnant and that was at 20 weeks. I think on TennCare, you only get one ultrasound unless you are having problems. They will only see you once per month until the last few weeks of pregnancy unless you are high risk or something goes wrong (that is the standard for all pregnancies no matter what the insurance you have is). When you do go they will probably ask if you have any concerns, listen to the fetal heartbeat with the external doppler, measure and feel your belly and then call it a day. If she is indeed wrong about the gestational age of your baby, she will see it on ultrasound and change your due date accordingly. The only thing that is different from a pregnancy on regular insurance is the amount of ultrasounds they permit. I am currently pregnant with my second child and do not have TennCare this time and have had three ultrasounds to this point but I am high risk this time due to my weight and chronic high blood pressure. The care is pretty much the same to be perfectly honest. Don't worry, you and your baby will be fine. It is normal for a first time mom to be anxious about her care and pregnancy. If you really don't like her, see about changing midwives. Good Luck!

Hi! I just wanted to let you know that I had a sono at 10 weeks and then between 10 and 20 weeks my OB just measured my belly and listened to the heartbeat. At 20 weeks I had my big ultrasound and then after that it was back to measuring and heartbeat listening until delivery. Oh, but when I reach 36 weeks my cervix was checked for dilation and thinning every week after that. I hope this helps.

It sounds pretty normal for where I live, but does sound suspicious. Are you able to switch to another midwife within this same clinic? if after the ultrasound you aren't satisfied, I would talk to her and ask more questions. If I didn't like the answers, I would go to her supervisor. I was like you the first time around. I wanted to know every detail bc I was so curious. Do you think that maybe your hormones are making you more nervous, curious or anxious? try to relax some. I hope it improves for you. good luck
