My partner is tuck on the name Ciara Niamh for our little girl; I love the Niamh but am concerned nobody will know how to spell or say her first name (Kee-ra). Hubby is half Irish so wanted an Irish name this time!! Any comments?

hi, just looked at ur question - im scottish and i wouldnt change the spelling at all..... some people just need to learn how to say it and how its spelt. and at the end of the day - u'll be the one dropping at school or nursery and registering them so everyone will know how it's said - it may only be strangers that dont realise. im having twins (boy/girl) dad likes Harry for the boy and ive chosen Isla for the girl (this is scottish and is said ila - the "S" is silent). i dont think u should change the spelling at all. maybe not the answer ur looking for but it looks nicer too the way it should be spelt.

very irish and very lovely! if your husband doesn't mind a non-irish spelling, you might change it for simplicity, but if he wants to be traditional, then just go with it. my brother's name is kyle and he learned to deal with correcting people when he was young - now it's not such an uncommon name! btw, I worked w/ a girl named niamh and I really do think it's a beautiful name :)

I also think it's a beautiful name, but thought it was pronounced See-ar-ah. I have gone through life with a name people love, but nobody knows how to spell it. When I make a reservation or go to Starbucks I always have to spell my name for them - I hate it when people spell names wrong (just my own pet peeve, maybe). But if you do choose to spell it differently, I would go with Kiera, not Keera.

I have to agree with most the other ladies on here. I was pretty sure it was said Sierra. It's a beautiful name the way you say it, but she will spend a lifetime correcting people when they call out her name. Just change the spelling.

maybe use the middle name as first name since you also like it or you can change the spelling of the first name so there is no mistaking how to pronounce it.

I read it how it should be, although by the other comments not alot of other people will. I think you should maybe spell it Keera though, be different :)

You have a point. I confidently read it as 'kee-ar-rah'. I love loads of Irish girls names but you're right, they can be a Dickens to spell! How about an Irish name but an American English spelling? Just spell it Keera? It's a pretty name.

I also read it to be 'sierra'. I would try to convince him to spell it differently, because I believe most everyone out there will think 'sierra' when they see it. *********Note********** I just noticed the UK/States thing...those of us in the States are reading it as "Sierra" and those in the UK are reading it the way you mean for it to be! So maybe you won't have any trouble with the name after all!!!

In my head I read Ciara(Sierra), I think that would be the case with most people. Would he let you maybe spell it differently? I think it's a pretty name!

I am glad you put the pronunciation because I thoght it was "Sierra". Could you spell it differently so that people will be able to pronounce it correctly? How about Kiera
