ok so I read all the answer's so far on your question and might I say they are a little abrupt and rude. I just wanted to say that I wouldn't in the first trimester but I did have 1 glass of red wine when I was 19 weeks. I went on my honey moon in jamaica and we ate at this really nice italian resturant. I love red wine with a great pasta so I had one. About half glass. My doc said it's not going to hurt anything to have a glass of wine here or there but definitly NOT all the time and Not to the point of you getting a buzz or even worse drunk!

Alcohol consumption as i'm sure you know causes birth defects and FAS. How much or how little you can drink before defects occur is not known... so its best not to drink at all. If you are worried about causing defects because you have had a couple drinks before you found out you were pregnant, then don't worry. As long as you are not continuing to drink heavily every day then baby will be fine. Personally, I had a tiny amount of red wine with some dinners once or twice a month. Usually about 1-2 oz- enough to enjoy but not enough to do harm. My girlfriend had a half glass of red wine weekly and baby is fine. However*** if alcohol effects you quickly, then it will effect baby even faster. A rule is: if you are feeling AT ALL tipsy- then baby is totally drunk inside you. SO therefore avoid alcohol and only partake if it is a miniscule amount that can't hurt baby.

Don't drink your first trimester!! Its the most important for developing! Is it really that important to have a glass of wine? In my opinion drinking at all during pregnancy is a wrong choice, but make sure the first 3 months you are staying away. Its for the best of your developing child.
