quad test & weight gain

I`ve just had my quad test, for downs syndrome. I find out in a few days whether I`m high or low risk, any advice on whether to have the amniocentesis test if I`m high risk would be so much appreciated, I just don`t know what to do. Also, I was weighed this morning and I`ve put on 9 pounds since I got pregnant, I`m now 16weeks + 5days - is this normal? It sounds like a lot! Thanks girls x

mamakitty1971 - 114 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I am 16 weeks + 5 days today (6/19) and have an amnio scheduled on the 30th... which I am still debating on whether or not I will actually go through. While my first trimester screening was normal, my OB tells me that I should not take that as gospel. My OB says that the risks of M/C after amnio are slight, but I am still scared. I am a "certified worrier" so my OB thinks that knowing the status of the baby is very important for my own well-being. I am scared, nevertheless, of miscarrying a healthy baby. I am also against bringing a child into the world who won't live past a few months -- as the case with some of the Trisomies. Anyone gone through the same experience? Amnio or not? What would you do?

vikki - 122 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I personally think that the amino is scare mungering. The risk test is also of no great use. A freind of mine at 18 was LOW risk but her baby was downs, conversely another friend was HIGH risk, the amino said 3 TIMES that baby was VERY downs and low and behold after she had been pressured to "do something about it" and her partner leaving her because she wouldn't. SHE HAD A PERFECTLY HEALTHY GIRL! I guess if you go ahead with the test, just keep the results in perspective, they are ONLY a MAYBE and if they are positive for whatever, then just see it as a heads up. They only give you a ratio of odds. As far as the weight thing, I'm of no help. Good luck.:-)

dawnispregz - 123 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) This was something that my b/f and I discussed if it came back as high risk and we decided we would have the test. But its purely a personal preference. Theres many thing to discuss if you are high risk and that needs to be done with your partnes/close family member. Im sure you will be fine though, i got mine back im british white as is my b/f, no family medical history so everything was fine. With regards to the weight i BALLOONED so early on i look 7 month pregnant and only 5 months now.Nothing to do with eating more - as i went off food for 6 weeks- just grew really early and have a lot of water. Dont worry about the weight, but if you truly are then go walking, biking, or if u can afford it swimming and yoga.x x x

moms the word - 123 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I never have the tests for genetic abnormalaties. Whatever will be will be. If the baby looks good on the ultrasound I don't see a need to risk losing the pregnancy by having the amnio. I had a friend lose her baby two days after the amnio and she has never forgiven herself for having it done. She says she would rather have a baby with some problems than lose the baby she had already grown to love. I would just pray for a healthy baby and not worry about it. If there was something wrong, would you terminate the pregnancy? It is really a personal choice but I personally would not do it. As far as the weight gain, that sounds fine. don't worry unless your doc tells you to gain more weight. you are only supposed to gain 25 to 30 pounds for your entire pregnancy anyway so you seem to be fine to me.

Mommy2twogreatkids - 124 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Honestly we only had th quad screen to make sure so we could hav a heads up on any specialist we might need. The outcome would not ahve changed anything we did or will do for our children. So unless you are planning to abort then I would not do it. Just trust that God's plan will be carried out nd your baby will be FINE!

Debra - 124 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I never did the testing because I knew that ultimately, we'd never abort a child any way- so why find out in advance. So many times the testing is not accurate and many couples terminate a perfectly healthy pregnancy... so it just made sense to accept whatever angel God was gracious enough to give us and love that child to the best of our ability. It is common to gain weight quickly in the first and second trimester and then slow down. Depending on your diet and how much you weighed to begin with, you can gain a little or a lot. I started out at 5 feet 4 inches and mildly overweight at 158lbs. I quickly gained 10 lbs within the first 2 months ( which is usually due to the doubling of your blood volume, growth of boobs and fully grown placenta which is done at 12 weeks and usually weighs about 7 lbs alone). I gained a total of 31 lbs which I lost 15 lb immediately after birth and now weigh less than I started thanks to a healthy diet, exercise and breast feeding. Please stop by my VIP site- I compiled a must know list for women- info from finding out the hard way, my midwife, other moms- all things everyone should know about pregnancy/labor and birth/breastfeeding, baby care and more... but no one tells you.

monica9 - 124 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) i wouldnt havew the test done personally. it is too risky. at 16 weeks i had gained around 18 lbs. i was a bit underweight to start but i dont think that mattered. i think you will be fine. good luck
