This happend to one of my friends sister. She was Very obese and had no idea she was pregnant. Labor however can be painless and almost euphoric. Some women have been known to describe labor as a pleasant, orgasmic experience. Most will not describe labor like that though because it might be taboo. This was described in a book i read, "Ina may's Guide to childbirth" which revolutionized my views on childbirth. I now see it as a must read. My labor went well and while i can't describe it as pleasant, it certainly wasn't as bad as I had first imagined. My other friend's who read this book thought the same thing. Her imagery techniques work wonders to get dilation moving fast! See my VIP site for more info.

You hear stories like this all the time...I don't get it either. My body has made sure that I KNOW that I am pregnant every second of every day since I was like 3 weeks along! How do you not notice your insides being sh-it kicked constantly, the lack of period, or a giant growing belly...I agree its insane.

the mind is a powerful tool. If it doesnt cross your mind that your pregnant and you have irregular periods you might just be in denial. Making up excuses in your head to whats wrong, why you might feel sick etcc., Some people might not feel movements either. I think people just ignore all the warning signs cuz they really truly dont believe thats whats wrong with them and then end up in labour. The only thing i dont get is eventually you would get a stomache wouldnt you? i know some ppl are latee and takes a loong time til they all of a sudden blow up but u wud have to notice your tummy expanding?

I'd say no way is it possible, but I've seen it first hand. A friend of mine was a gymnist, and hardly ever got a period. One night a bunch of us were climbing out of a window of an abandoned house (we were up to no good! lol those were the days) and she had major cramping and had to go to the hospital...and she gave birth!! She didn't even gain a pound or anything. The baby was tiny, just under
5pds, but he's now 13 and doing great. I don't know how they couldn't feel the movement, sometimes it would keep me up at night!

I also watched the "I didn't know I was pregnant" program on discovery the other night. I was shocked to hear that some women are so out of touch with their bodies that they don't notice big changes like that. I have a friend whose boss' wife didn't know she was pregnant till she gave birth. She said they told her it was because she was overweight and had irregular periods and she thought she was going through the change and that was what was causing her symptoms. She claims she never felt the baby move. I am overweight myself and I knew I was pregnant very early due to the extreme nausea. It just shocked me how there were enough women to fill an hour long program about this.

I would think it was impossible, except that I have a good friend whom had no idea that she was pregnant until she delivered a baby by herself on her living room floor (her daughter is doing surprisingly well, and her first birthday is next month!). She didn't gain weight, she'd always had irregular periods and did still continue to have them throughout the pregnancy, she'd taken a few pregnancy tests that came up negative (when the period was stranger than usual), and she'd always had intestinal/digestive issues (which can feel similar to a baby, if you don't know what you're feeling - I can attest to that since I have an intestinal disease). It was completely crazy to hear that my friend had just given birth, when she had no idea that she was pregnant, but not as crazy as it was for her! She thought she was having bad cramps, and didn't really realize what was happening until she was giving birth. She was then shocked that it wasn't a miscarriage, but a live little baby that she was obviously completely unprepared for. Other than being quite small at birth, her daughter was born healthy and strong (and she's super cute!). So, it's completely crazy, and before this I would've agreed that there is no way you wouldn't know, but it happens.

Yea this is crazy!! Geez who wouldn't know that the movement inside their bellies was a baby.. it's kind of obvious!
My husband's aunt claims that she didn't know she was pregnant till her mother brought her to the hospital kuz she was in pain and they said she was having a baby.. I don't believe her one bit. She was pretty young so maybe it was a cover up but wouldn't you feel the baby move?? OO and she claims that she had her period all nine months, which is possible but also rare.
